Hi all

Been looking for a few months for a new car, and finally settled on a Z4 :driving: . Test drove it last Wednesday, fell in love, and am collecting it this coming Thursday afternoon!!

She's Toledoblau blue (I think - quick bit of googling!), cream leather, 18" wheels... other spec:

Climate Control
Electric Seats
Heated Seats
Parking Sensor
Trip Computer
Auto Lighting
Xenons with Headlamp Jetwash
Rain-Sensing Wipers
Auto-dip Rearview
Electric Mirrors
Bluetooth
Steering controls (not sure if this is standard with phone prep?)

Also, I'm pretty sure it has the uprated (Carvar?) stereo system as there aren't cubby holes behind the seats. A bit disappointed I'll be missing cruise control  but I believe that can be retro fitted without having to take it into BMW (did some searching around on here) although might be a bit more awkward on the 2004 model!

So as you can all expect, I'm quite excited 8) !! I have a nightmare train journey ahead of me to get it, but the drive home will make it worth while!!

Any tips for when I collect? Things to check, faults to look for, basically to make sure that the dealer isn't pulling the wool over my eyes with anything? It has done 60,000 miles and they are doing a full Inspection II service for me with BMW parts before I collect...

Thanks all in advance.

welcome to the forum :D

Sounds like a nice car you have found yourself :D

Cruise control can be an easy retrofit depending on when in 2004 your car was made... Pre OCt 2004 the wiring will already be there and it'll take about 10 minutes... post Oct 2004 it'll be harder as the wiring loom has to be installed too. there are a couple of great threads on here about this though

it is gonna be a long week for you...

Welcome, there are some very expert people here who are willing to impart their wisdom to all and sundry. I also have a 3.0L SE (auto) and I love it to bits. Mine is also on 18" with runflats, I experience a great deal of tramlining and a jittery ride over less than perfect roads.

I am still at the stage where I like to use the go pedal a bit too heavy, so averaging 25mpg. However, on my commute (A12 dual carriageway for 13 miles against traffic, I easily get 35mpg)

If you get the cruise control and bollix cutting up the cowling, I have a spare. I didn't have the bottle to cut mine so got the pre cut. I use my cruise all the time as it makes for a much more relaxed drive.

Thanks for the responses people!! What a great welcome! :D

Definitely a long week ahead with sleepless nights!! Will waste the evenings on this forum no doubt!

gannet - I'll be taking the cowling off as soon as I get it home to see if the wiring is there already!! If it is, I'll be straight up the stealers Saturday to get the part ordered! It's a 54 plate, so I might just be lucky... if not, I'll still look down the wiring loom route as I love Cruise control on my cars! Would find it hard to live without.

petach - Thanks for the mpg info. My mate has a 3.0SE manual (mine is also manual) and he gets 30mpg pretty much all the time, and on a long motorway stretch at sensible speeds he gets close to 40mpg, so I'd be happy with that. Out of interest, do you use 98/99ron fuel, or just standard unleaded? Also, I did notice the ride was quite harsh on the 18's with runflats during my test drive, but the roads were terrible! Saying that, I don't think I'm going to mind bumping around too much vs the noise of the straight 6 roaring! 8) Thanks for the cowling offer - I'll come back to you if I slip with the dremel!!

Fond memories of my old 3.0 ... also from 2004

pvr - almost identical in looks to the one I've bought! Same colour, interior and wheels - just mine has the black roof! Even to the point that mine is de-badged on the wings too! 8) Thanks for posting those pics - got me even more excited now, and just before bedtime too! Haha!

Will post pics on the weekend - planning on a nice spin up the welsh mountain roads around the Brecons, so hopefully if it's a nice day I'll get some nice shots!

Speaking of which - I'll have to start looking around for Welsh meets - some great roads around here!
