Everyone, Hi!

Thought I would put finger to keyboard, register and say my hello's. I've been rumaging around these forums, sponging information for the last 5-6 months before deciding on which Z4 to part cash with (check sig for it's spec) which I have now found and hopefully closing the deal soon. Current financial climate is helpin me get a bargain and I have to thank everyone here for posting such helpful information ( :D the rest, thanks for making me laugh).

So looking forward to actually driving the thing, pick up from England sometime next week and have a very dull and boring drive back home. Who am I kidding, 240 miles of sheer driving bliss! Who cares if the temp drops to -5 deg once I pass the border LOL, top will still be down and I'll be toasty with a big grin :driving: .

First job (after staring at it on my driveway for a day and annoying the other half with a full days valet) is a retro fit for Sat Nav - nothing too ambitious! Och, to be honest, just looking forward to having the keys, first car purchase in 10 years and my E36 318is is for sale, bullet proof and will be sorry to see it go.

That's about it, no doubt more posts to follow but for now, back to waiting and look forward to chatting to y'all.

Thanks!

Dont get me started on wheels but must admit to liking what's on the car?

Here's all I've got to look at for the time being....

Looks good :)

They are nice wheels and are what I had before corrosion set in - watch those kerbs with the long nose while getting used to the car

Welcome, the SatNav Retrofit is getting populare round here, a few of us have done it, so lots of useful info available when you need it.

Cheers, still not seen it in the flesh, me in Glasgow and the car in Birmingham. Private sale and RAC inspection threw up a few things, car is now with a stealer for sorting.

Knocking from the steering (10AM an 2PM positions), unnoticable when driving, only at idle, kinda knocking noise.
Rear spring getting replaced
Slight water ingress in the boot, been in for this before when it was much worse, stealer busted the insurance company for 3.5K (new bat, carpets, amps, control boxes and looms) suspect cracked light cluster but the problem has come back though not as bad. Passed some links from Z4-Forum to the guy and stealer looking at drain plugs.

Guy is very helpful (so is the stealer), all work being warrantied for 2 years and hopefully, car will be tip-top before parting with dosh!

Is it true that because of the long snout it's a weird feeling turning corners due to the steering setup? Seen posts where it feels like a delay turning but realy isn't?

Re the Sat Nav, I'm OK with computer, GPS antenna, wiring, not so sure about the pop-up display. Said to girlfriend about cutting a hole in the dash, no response! Presume if I take my time all will be well! Is coding required once fitted?

I've not noticed any feeling of delay etc, you just have to remember that there is an awful lot of car in front of you and also quite a bit in front of the front wheels..

Sounds like you have got everything under control

pvr & srhutch should be able to better answer you nav questions, I don't believe there additional coding though.

gannet, done so much reading think I know more about the car than he does, saturated with info and just want it on my drive now. Best things come to those who wait and all that, those who wait too long end up spending money on something really stupid instead :D Given girlfriend bank card which in retrospect is probably a bad idea!!!

I certainly know a lot more about the car since being on here :D And in some cases more than the dealer it seems

Giving your girlfriend your bank card - nope can't see that that would be a good idea :o

Looks good, I bought the V1LAN from a mate who lived just outside London and brought it back up to Bonnie Scotland. I loved the run back up the road , though I did get funny looks on the M6 in February with the roof down :P

No coding is required when retrofitting SatNav. Cutting the hole is the most terrifying part, as there is no going back, just have to take your time, and cut the hole smaller to be on the safe side, as there isnt a lot of overlap.

When you get to that stage is gannet said give either PVR or myself a shout and we should be able to help.
