Newb advice

Hi All

Never thought I'd register on a BMW forum but here goes :D

Suppose I'd better introduce myself, my name is Gary and I usually drive a Disco3. I'm treasurer of Disco3club.co.uk and dabble in a few things off road related so all this sporty stuff is a thing of the past, however, the fun prevention officer has a requirement to trade in her nice sensible VW Polo for a Z4. Admittedly, she has hankered after one for a year or so, but she's a bit tight (with money) and it's taken me this long to persuade her it'll be good fun.
So, budget around £15k. Looked at a tidy 2007s today but it lacked a certain "something" even if it did have her favoured red leather interior.
Is there anything to avoid/look for?
Think she's after a 2.5, I can't get her to splash out on a 3.0l as the insurance is too costly at just over £1k (She's just turning 30)

Any pointers welcome

Many thanks

Gary

Thanks Taz, all sensible stuff there indeed

Are there any variants to avoid? Extra's worth having?

Seem to be so many variations on a theme, it's rather like buying a Land Rover

Hi Gary,
We are in a similar boat it seems! I have a Disco3 and trading in the wife's peugeot 206 for a z4 3.0 sport coupe (pick it up this weekend). I decided to give her the disco and drive the Zed myself as she had originally politely asked me to trade in my 735i for the Disco3 :headbang: . Disco3 is a great car... but I was missing my BMW. :D

its all down to personal choice

you will find there is much banter between ragtop and hard top onwers on here, each convinced their model is the best

personally i would only consider the 3.0ltr, having said that the 2,5 is very good, the automatic box is excellent

Big carp chaser? I've done a bit of that in my time too ;)

ahhaaa...where in Berks are you? We may have rubbed shoulders already :D
I'm in Reading but fish a syndicate at Kempton Park Racecourse 8)

Blimey...this searching is fruitless at the moment. Trying to persuade her indoors to get a 3.0l, seem to get a lot of car for your money, not that much worse on go go juice/insurance/tax and miles more choice.

Reading but orginally from Essex. Have fished plenty of hush hush syndicates here and there and some circuit waters too. Secret squirrel!

Good luck with the search and welcome to the Forum.

Used to know a guy call Dick WALKER and some fish called Clarissa........

If your still thinking of a 3.0 I have a low miles huge spec one I'm thinking of selling

bit older than your looking at but a lot cheaper so the insurance wouldn't be a problem (and would be prob less as the Market value of the car would be less, also as it's pre march 2006 the tax is less)

Small world! I am in Reading too :D

Might just do that playalistic
How many attendees do you usually get?

We used to do a D3 meet at the Fairmile in Cobham, quite impressive seeing 25 D3's on the lawn. The Corvette OC used to meet the same night as us so we'd use their cars as plastic obstacles and drive over them :driving:

Neil-W....thanks for the heads up but we'll keep looking for a 2.5 I think, at least for a couple of weeks. Good luck with the sale of your car though, sounds nice.

Cool we seem to have our own little contingent now :) Take it you're down for the Berkshire meet 22nd May!

Was thinking about attending, just need to work out what my availability is that day. My lady will probably come with me, do partners usually attend?

indez4cpe Yep, usually plenty of partners turning up too.

bigcarpchaser anything from 10 to 40 in some cases. Usually a good show, especially in the warmer months. We're a friendly bunch, try and make it along
