New Z4MC owner

Hi all,

Introducing myself here! I'm a fellow named Johannes living on the other side of the canal, in the small country called Belgium. I've been following the Z4-forum for a while new and finally opened an account, given the purchase of my precious car.

About a year ago I did my first lap as a passenger on the Nürburgring and I instantly fell in love with track racing. Back then I didn't have the car neither the money to buy one, I've never forgotten the thrill of driving the Green Hell.

Over the last year I've returned to the Ring a couple of times and I've driven laps in a VW Scirocco, a Z4 3.0 and a Z4MR. I've also managed to save some money and a few weeks ago I decided that the time would be right to buy a Z4MC end of this year / beginning of next year, when people offer winter sales. As you might imagine, things always go faster then expected , and I ended up buying my M a week ago :D

The buying experience was great. I found a real petrolhead near Frankfurt, Germany, who used the Z4M for weekend trips with his wife (an ex automotive journalist)! The guy picked me up in his exclusive Porsche 964 RS when I arrived at the train station, and he wasn't afraid to show me the potential of his Porsche :driving:.

After 2 days of ownership I decided I had to try the car on the Ring, to see how it feels. The drive was great , very solid and stable on the track. Only the brakes could be better - they started smoking after every hot lap :fuelfire:. An upgrade is already planned...

I didn't yet manage to give the car a proper wax, so you'll have to live with 2 pictures the friendly photographers around the Nurburgring shot of my car in action. More pictures will follow in the next weeks.

Planned upgrades:
  • 19" CSL alloy wheels (2 sets bought - 1 set for sale soon)
  • Michelin Pilot Super Sport or Pilot Sport Cup 2
  • CDV delete (bought, to be installed)
  • Skid plates (bought, to be delivered)
  • EBC Yellow brake pads (bought, to be delivered) + ATE Blue brake fluid
  • Braided brake lines
  • Brake ducts
  • Eibach spring set

Why race the ring, when you have the greatest circuit in the world in your country? Next year I have to take my z4MC to Spa...welcome to the club.

It's easier to make last-minute ring decisions on TF days. A Spa track day is planned November 6th, if the weather is good. Only been a passenger on Spa, really looking forward to driving there.

Nice coupe!! What springs are there on there now? From those pics, it already looks lower than stock.

Seller told me spring have not been changed yet, so I expect them to still be stock. Upgrade to Eibach springs is planned, I'll know for sure which springs the M currently has until they're replaced :)

I just realized it's a long time ago I posted an update about my beloved car.

Since I took ownership about a year ago I've put 12.5k miles on the clock. I'd say 3/4 road (including going to trackdays) and 1/4 on track. I loved every single mile :driving:

During the course of the year I've noticed a number of potential upgrades to make the car even better: brakes are a weak point and the suspension is too soft. I've tackled those problems with following modifications:

  • CSL wheels: done (feb 2014)
  • Michelin PSS or Pilot Sport Cup 2 (not yet available): PSS done (feb 2014)
  • CDV delete: done (nov 2013)
  • Skid plates: done (feb 2014)
  • EBC Yellow pads: done (nov 2013)
  • EBC Yellow replaced by Pagid RS 14 (F) and 29 (R) setup: done (feb 2014), second set installed (jun 2014)
  • Steel brake lines: done (nov 2013)
  • Extra brake cooling - phase 1 (plastic piece in bumber): done (nov 2013)
  • Extra brake cooling - phase 2 (air duct): done (feb 2014)
  • Leather seats recolor: planned
  • Eibach Pro-set: done (jun 2014)
  • Engine check: done (feb 2014)
  • Turner Motorsports Caliper Bushing Upgrade Kit: done (aug 2014)
  • Turner Motorsport Rear Trailing Arm Bushing Limiters: done (aug 2014)

This is probably the best setup I can get without investing serious $$ in a BBK or a new suspension. The brakes are fading slightly on a fast ring lap and the brake pedal travel is still more then what I'd like it to be, but I'm not going to make more changes for the time being.

With the current setup I've managed a 8m15 BTG lap on the Nurburgring last weekend. Very happy with this result :D
