New Z4MC owner

Hi all,

I bought villageroad's Z4MC (he looked after it so well), best photos of it are from the old listing from Seymour Pope listing. It looks pretty much exactly the same apart from the debadged wings.

It's still in the same part of the country and I am loving it so far. Apart from quite a few ordinary cars which I've rented/borrowed, I've come into this from a Saxo VTS (which I'm keeping). It's quite the difference!

See you all about.

congratulations pulp, what a lovely example!!!

Well wear! :driving:

Attilio

P.S. What tyre sizes are you running? 245/35R19 (Front) and 265/30 R19 (Rear)?
I am asking as I am about to buy tyres for the CSL wheels I got recently

Thank you mate.

And yes, the tyre sizes are as you say and they're on Michelin Pilot Sport 4 S.

I love how they look - I'm currently looking for some winter wheels and will be a shame to have them off for a few months.

Welcome! You've made excuses for not posting photos of the Z but that Saxo must be a fairly rare thing now so let's see some photos of that! :D Is it original or modified?

Welcome - lovely car and a lovely colour. Also I applaud your taste - a relatively standard saxo vts is a charming thing in my opinion! :driving:

Haha, you got me - any excuse to talk about it. Here's a potato photo of them together, and the only recent photo of the Saxo (can't actually find anymore right now).

It's fairly standard; it's lowered 30mm, has aftermarket exhaust, then just little things like silver bits blacked out, aerial and a blue 106 carpet. Need to inspect it for rust and the paint isn't the best, but it's a load of fun and something I may restore if I ever feel motivated.

Didn't mean to sound like I had a downer on modified saxos at all btw, your mods all sound like the right ones for make it a hoot on a Backroad!
I came from a 106, 306 dturbo, 2 x 306 gti6s and a Megane r26 before moving to the si coupe and then the M - I will always have a special place in my perfect garage for a french hatch, they just have a brilliant character! I regularly spend evenings trying to man maths my way into a clio 182 daily - so far I've not managed to justify it but it's a work in progress

Hi and welcome to the forum.

You're right about an MC being quite different to a Saxo VTS!

Even after 5 years in 3.0Si Coupes my MC feels very different. :)

Haha, and I didn't mean to come across like I had written. Looks wise my VTS right now is how I want it, OEM+ I suppose?

Yep, I did wonder what purpose the VTS would serve me once having a car like a Z4M; the BMW is an amazing and fun machine (from the bit of driving I've done), and the VTS is just light and easy fun - if not a death trap.

Hard question maybe, but how are you getting on with the M compared to the 3.0? I was considering one before I was set on this.

Well to me the 3.0Si always seemed like 80% of the car for 50% of the money, and now I've had my MC for almost a year I still think that is the case - but that extra 20% you get from an M is just so special! And I was lucky enough to find one in budget last December.

The MC has much higher running costs when you factor in the valve clearance checks at every Inspection service, cost of brakes, etc. but if you can afford to buy one, run one and are a real enthusiast why wouldn't you want the M? The upside is neither model of Coupe seems to be dropping in value lately so it looks like you'd get the extra spend back when selling.

My 3.0Sis were both Sport models running on Bridgestone run-flats and (probably tired) OE suspension and the ride in the two Ms I drove before I bought mine actually rode better! Mine isn't so good, but it's on H & R coil-overs which feel too stiff for road use for my liking. But they will be coming off!

Both models obviously feel the same when you sit in them, but as soon as you fire up the engine you know you are in a different car! My M has Powerflow back-boxes and sounds fantastic, without being excessive. The hydraulic PAS in the M feels way better than the electric set-up in the Si which could feel a bit notchy, and on run-flats they did tramline a bit which the M doesn't. And the run-flats used to "thump" over minor imperfections, even cats-eyes.

The M has an LSD but in view of our pandemic I've only just got past 2,000 miles with mine, so haven't turned the TC off to find out how much difference the LSD makes!

My Z4s have only ever been used as cars for special occasions - if I was using one as a daily I'm not sure I'd want to subject an M to that, but for what I do with mine I'm just loving it.

I hope that convinces you that you've made the right choice!

Great reply mate, thank you for convincing me :D

I work from home so I don't really have a daily, so I'm not looking to load the miles on. Although I have bought it to use (which is why I'm looking for some winter tyres)! My only regret is that I have nowhere to keep it inside currently, would be great for the extra peace of mind.

All of the preventative work (which I know of) has been done, just had inspection II etc, so right now it seems to be at a point of keeping on top of it rather than having any major work to book it in for. I mean it needs some paint correction and I'm not sure on the life of the brakes but mechanically it seems sound. Previous owners have really looked after it and I plan on doing the same.

Really looking forward to experiencing the ownership of a car like this. I am constantly trying to think of excuses to go out in it. :driving:

Like you said, as soon as you sit in these things and twist the key it's already an event.

Cheers
