Hi

Just picked up my Imola Red Z4M Roadster today and I am very impressed with the car. I traded in an Boxster S and I can already see the slight increase in performance. I used to have a 3.0 Z4R and and its good to be back in a Z4 :) .

This is my first posting and I have to say that this is a great forum. Hoping to take some photos after I clean the car tomorrow and will then post them

Welcome.

I think we would be interested in your thoughts/opinions of the Boxster S v. Z4M.

We get lots of opinions of the Boxster buy people who don't own one. It will be nice to here from someone who just came from one.

I went from a 911 (964) to a Boxster S to a Z4M over 9 years, the BMW is better than the others, power is much nicer too.
i enjoyed the porsche cars as i always wanted one but I prefer the BMW just as it is more raw and waits to bite you if you do wrong :D

Thanks all for the welcome :)

I cleaned the car to put my stamp on it yesterday and then went to take some photos but my camera battery was dead  I will take some photos at the next opportunity and post them. The only thing i noticed were quite a few stone chips on the front bumper and bonnet edge but i will probably get these re-sprayed next spring after the winter.

The M already feels more powerful than the Boxster S and I am still treating it with respect.. :driving: The sound is great above 4000rpm  The Boxster was probably slightly more refined and very easy to drive fast whereas the M seems slightly more 'heavy' but I'm sure will be faster once it is pilotted by a more experienced driver :D Having had 3 Caterham's in the past (including a Superlight R), the M is the closest other road car i have driven and was one of the reasons why i decided to buy one. The acceleration is so instant and is probably helped by my engine being nicely loosened up after 37,000 miles and I haven't even used the sport button yet.... Looking forward to getting out in it again hopefully later this week..

At 0700 this morning a delivery driver brought my new 123D & took away my Z4MR. I was very unhappy until I spent all morning driving the new car..

The reasons I decided to change after 9 months of fantastic ownership were:

1. BMW taking the piss out of loyal owners & charging upwards of £600 for the negligable Inspection 1 service & over £900 for the "valve clearance" check Inspection 2.

2. I can (& did) pay £660 for 5yrs servicing on a non-M car.

3. Reducing my Road Tax from £405 to £120 a year (I am retired & that hurt - a lot).

4. Reducing fuel consumption from 22-27 mpg to 48-52mpg!

5. Modern electronic control systems.

6. In this day & age, you quite simply can't sensibly use 346bhp in the UK without risking your licence .

When I saw my car being driven away I had regrets as to what I had done. Now, 7 hours later, I absolutely know I made the right decision. The 123D is one hell of a car. Forget the published acceleration figures. Once you are in 2nd, this car will not be far behind any ///M car. - For 1/3rd of the running costs...

A Z4M to a diesel 1 series! Sure it's a good engine but I hope that never ever happens to me. As long as your happy though

Wow, reading this on the day I've collected my MC and having a fantastic cross country drive home makes me feel fortunate.

The journey home would normally take 3 1/2 hours but in fact tool 5 1/2. There is nothing wrong with my MC, I just wanted to take the most pleasurable roads I could.

I agree with all the points made by Sitting Bull but the MC for me isn't a means of getting from A-B, it's a form of entertainment and just a bit of fun. My neighbour spends a lot more on his microlight on average every year which is a pastime he can only enjoy for about 10 days in a year and he can't even use that as a reliable means of getting from A-B.

There are lots of cars that are cheaper to run, will get you there as quickly. There are even cars that are cheaper and just as much fun but in a different way.

I read somewhere that just like everyone should own an Alfa Romeo at least once in their life, they should own a BMW M car. This is my time and I'm going to make the most of it. Once the burden of running costs get too much, I'll move on.

I find it hard to believe that any 1 series is going to give me as much pleasure as my MC but if there is enough evidence to support this there will be cheap MC up for grabs in the next few weeks.

4. I'd be impressed if you get that, I've had my 120d for ~12months and averaged 43mpg over 14k most of which has been motorway driving.

5. Not sure what you mean?

6. It's fun trying ;)

How do you deselect that? When I get a loaner I really don't like the start / stop so would be interested to know.
