New Z4M a step closer?

So apparently this 35is has an additional radiator... wonder what it could be remapped to - 400hp ish?

Wonder if that's an oil cooler? The 335i upgrade kit has a separate oil cooler with the it.

The standard 35i was out-dragged by a Boxster on 5th Gear and wasn't very quick on ther Top Gear track. So unless the 35si has a better suspension set up it will only be quicker in a straight line.

Blatant marketing though, launch the car, sell as many as you can then bring out a new 'top of the range' 'M' sport that should have been there at the start :x

Whatever guys Looks like the M would be priced in the range of M3. If that is the case would you buy M3 the ICON or a z4M.

...just like the E86 Z4M was then...

I would still go for Z4M over the M3. personally prefer the roadster. Wish they would just have a ragtop, If you need a coupe then why not buy the M3.

The Z4 would have to loose some weight! Two different cars really. The new Z4 is more of GT car and the s version won't be any different compared to the Boxster S.

That Boxster S is way more expensive and ceramic brakes, so it wasn't exactly a standard Boxster!

Bit like putting an Aston against a Ferrari on the track!

Take away the race driver/presenter banter, and there wasn't that much in it in that test really!

Put them both on the road then try and compare! I think they wanted the Porshe to win! Why did Plato back off going to the line?

If they do bring out an M, I bet it won't have the auto metal roof! If it does, what's the point as the weight will kill it against the opposition.?

If the new 1 series M gets nearer 400BHP from the 35i engine as rumoured then eventually you will see that in a facelifted 35is I guess. Whether they will call it a Z4M though is another matter. 35i engine seems good for a progression up to 400 BHP eventually. It is a fantastic engine and I am tempted by my mate's 335i convertible if he gets rid next year.

Z4M V8 has arrived, although not quite what everyone was hoping for...

http://bmw-motorsport.com/ms/en/races/customer_racing/car/z4_gt3.html

The BMW Z4 GT3 is powered by a four-litre, eight-cylinder engine producing approximately 480 bhp. When it comes to electronics, the private teams can look forward to innovative BMW solutions, which have proven themselves in the BMW M3 GT2: the engine is controlled by the modern ECU 408, while the Power400 control unit is responsible for operating all actuators. The transmission takes place via a sequential, six-speed gearbox.

...available from the second quarter of 2010 at an estimated price of 298,000 Euro (plus VAT).

Well that proves the engine fits....strip off the race spec, that's a future production car right there :)

Hope the roof is able to fold down during 24 hours races :). Might be a pitstop decision, up or down sir?

I bet they do an M version and it comes with a v8

Yeah I think you may be right. Even if the V8 is getting phased out, for a while the Z4M was the only car using the 3.2 so the same could happen. I also think that fact that the 35is wasn't called Z4M means they are leaving room for it.

I'd say undercutting the M3 coupe by a wee bit, so say £48.5k with standard nav.

Just makes logical sense really to have a Z4 M. Crikey, you can even buy X M`s, why on earth would BMW not give the M treatment to the only 2 seater in the range. I see a Z4 M as more likely than a Z2 of a any sort. I`d be very surprised if BMW didn`t use NA, so the V8 is the obvious choice. I`m not sure people would want to pay M prices for a 35i engine with the twin hairdryers tuned up a notch further . Turbo cars usually suffer drivability issues the more power that they kick out, going against one of the things M division stands for.

And there's the noise....engine note is one of the major reasons I would take a Vantage over a 911, very very important.

Put that in a Z4M...Yum

Having said that, the new M5 will reportedly use FI now the tech is reliable and lag free...

If BMW stick the V8 in the Z4 in a year or two it may be a last application for the N.A. engine as they move to F.I. to reduce emissions.

Two years would just be perfect for me

Mark my words ... The first discussion will be with Breaker who will state that there is no real life difference with his s35 :D :poke:
