New Z4

Hi,

A major THANK YOU for all the good information and DIY's on this forum.

Bought a (very badly maintained and Cat C) Z4 (2003, E85, 2.5) for an absolute bargain on eBay (less than 4k GBP, had no service history and strange engine mileage, and invoices for repairs from BMW Battersea for 6k in 2010?!?!) and decided to do all the maintenance and repair work myself. Already done air filter, micro filter, coils, spark plugs, wiper motor fix, bluetooth ODB2 to read fault codes. Next is oil change, tranny oil change, diff oil change, cooleant change, VANOS, DISA, etc.

Hoping that by next spring my little Zed is in good nick so I can take the girlfriend for a spin to Spain!!

Thanks again!

Mathias

Hi and welcome to the Forum. Sounds like a challenging task ahead but doing it yourself will make sure it gets done. Best of luck

Yes, those rims really do look nice on that ride.
Mine's almost the same car (2003 2.5i in Sterling Gray), but it has the 202's that seem to be pretty much ubiquitous on that model.

Yep the rims are really nice. But also majorly scuffed. Will take them to Swindon's Lepsons for an overhaul. Will post before/after pictures.

Hi and welcome to the forum. Out of interest, when you're finished bringing it up to standard, how much do you think you'll have saved compared to buying a well maintained/FSH/Non Cat C car of the same year and spec?

Good point. Biggest cost is probably the new tyres (+ rim repair), but then again this is more of a running cost. Bought it for *drumroll* 3500 pounds, and on eBay the average sale value is about 6-7k, so I can spend 2000 on it and still have a very good deal (except if I would want to sell it again, which I don't want). The only thing that slightly worries me is the SMG. Mine is working fine, but I've read horror stories, so keeping my fingers crossed.

Good luck looks like a nice project !!! I did this with a MK1 and MK2 MR2 verry satisfying doing the work your self and getting the car back up standard. Keep us updated on progress
