New Z4 - USB/MP3 interface

Hi there,

Have just come across this forum since ordering a new Z4; a great source of information and comment :D

Have ordered the USB interface deelie - but couldn't find too much info from the literature, or from the dealership for that matter. I understand that it supports iPhone/iTouch - but anyone here know whether it interfaces to the other iPods in the range eg the iPod nano 4G ? If so, does it require extra cabling/adaptors. Also, I understand that track selection can be driven from the steering wheel controls - how well does that work, and how sophisticated is it ? eg does it do any more than 'select next track' ?

Any thoughts/insight would be most welcome !

Hi & Welcome to the forum!

Not a massive amount of info on the new zed yet, but all contributors welcome and there'll soon be huge info about the e89 too! :D

I've used the usb in a 3 series but it was with a usb stick, then it showed track names and could skip track, search by album etc, and was pretty good.

Be cool if it used that same integration from an ipod but id be amazed, best bet might be to get to a dealer with your iphone and try one in the car?

Starting with the assumption you have the Pro-Nav set up. I don't know about other set-ups.

Plug a 'loaded' USB into socket in glove-box and download tunes into "the car's system - i.e. Hard Drive".
It can hold about 12Gb (on top of the already installed Nav Data). It takes up to half an hour to load 8Gb (that's the highest capacity Memory Stick I have)

With an i-pod already connected to the "i-pod connecting lead" then plug this in turn into the socket in the stowage beneath the armrest and you then have a 'big-screen' version of your display.

More info when I have experimented more.
