New Z4 some questions please..

Ok so two days in and loving the Z4 experience however I have a couple of questions:

Is it normal for the 2.0l four pot to be a little rough at an idle set at 800rpm. Nothing major but it seems to hunt a bit.

The rear tranmission seems to whine a little, again nothing major and only really noticable when engine braking.

Sorry if these are typical noooob questions, but I haven't had a RWD for about 20 years and that was a Midget where the transmission was definately the lesser of all it's evils...

The 2.0 hunting is pretty normal. Transmission whine is pretty normal too depending on the gear and speed - you'll find it with all RWD cars.

Yep both fairly normal AFAIK. Mine has a faint whine from the diff ~25mph. You're basically sat on top of it almost so it will be slightly audible as some speeds. I had the same with my Monaro (although that was quieter as the diff was much further away) with the added bonus of occasional chuntering of the plate LSD.

Cheers guys apprecate the feedback.
Now i just need some damn sun so i can crack the roof... :driving:

Hi Georgio

My 2.0 hunts at idle, did my head in so took it to BMW and a specialist for checking. BMW said nothing wrong and its a common characteristic of the car??!! the specialist put new plugs in it and sped up the idle slightly, which makes it now more bearable. I noticed that if you have the climate control on AUTO with the air con on, the car idles fine, probably because its at a slightly higher speed again.

Cant said I have noticed a whine, but usually have the radio on! Only thing I have noticed was a whine from the engine which turned out to be a belt which needed lubricating which sorted it.

Enjoy your motor - one word of advice, get a BMW warranty on the car, I paid just £366 for mine from BMW and its already paid for itself!

I did new coils and plugs with no improvement so my local Indy advanced the idle a little and it helped a lot !! Cost me £50 and it was money well spent....they are all a little rough but you do get used to it. :)
