Just thought I'd introduce myself as I'm likely to be spending a fair while on here!
I recently purchased an E85 Z4 3.0i from a fellow forum member (link below), and so far am loving the machine. Not a lot of sun at this time of year, but I'm taking every opportunity that arises to get the top down!
There are a couple of bit and bobs that have needed / will need a little attention, but it's all pretty trivial stuff:
- Parking sensor were on the blink - have discovered that this is a common issue, in this case due to the paint bubbling on the face of the sensor. Have sanded back to the metal and re-painted. All working fine!
- Other jobs have included checking the rear springs and cleaning the drain holes - both A-okay.
I had a minor scare when i noticed a little mayonnaise / emulsion on the oil filler cap, a low coolant level, and a bit of steam / smoke from the exhaust, but thanks to the advice on this forum this has since been proved to be a false alarm:
- The mayo seems to have been attributable to a few short journeys. Having taken it for a proper spin this has completely disappeared.
- My brother had the same engine in his 5 series, and argues that the coolant indicator on his car was always wrong. He'd fill it up to the right level, and within 5 miles it would be back to the same 'low' level. The BMW specialist he used told him to pretty much ignore it - the engine is finding it's own level and is burning off what it considers to be excess. Sure enough, 100k miles later it was still floating on at the same level!
- I don't know what was causing the smoke / steam, but it's not doing it any more. A bit of extra fuel being burnt off? Condensation due to cold weather? Anyway, I'll keep an eye on it, but I think it's a case of 'new buyer expects the worse', finds reason to panic' syndrome.
Next on the 'to do' list will be adding an Intravee II. It has the CD changer, but I no longer own any CDs!
That's about it really. I might swap the 108s for Ellipsoids if I can find a half decent set. Call me lazy, but I prefer wheels I can fit and forget.
Anyway, great forum, and I look forward to chatting more in the coming months!
