New Z4 Owner

Hi guys & gals

Wanted to join the forum and say hello after getting myself a z4.

I am going to start with a confession...This wasn't meant to be the car that was meant to be sat on my driveway. :o

2 months ago I was in a position to buy myself another v8 and found a Silverstone II 2012 M6, long story short the car was rejected and is now sat on my driveway as a nice shiny paperweight while I go through solicitors. But...every cloud and all that... I still needed a car and after dabbling with the idea of getting a sub 1k shed for the short term, I gave my head a wobble and started looking for something that was relatively cheap but would be fun to drive.

Enter the z4... A car I have seen occasionally, always saying to myself they look like a bit of fun. I've always like the appeal of car that you don't often see on the road, having owned a Mk1 Focus RS & c5 RS6. So after a few weeks searching Autotrader, slowly increasing my budget and lurking this forum to read up about them I am now a proud owner of a Toldeo Blue 3.0 SE Auto Z4. Couple of shots below...

The car has 95k miles on it and seems to be in fairly good nick, previous owner has fitted new brakes, suspension and wheels to it. Roof motor was replaced in 2015 also. Mechanically it seems in fairly good nick while cosmetically it need a bit of TLC with a few scuffs, marks and scratches here and there, cant complain for the price I was looking at and the age the car is. Nothing mental but something I will look to rectify at some point.

First port of call is to replace the bonnet badge which has seen better days, then give it a general tidy and clean inside and out. After that then probably look to see if I can find a new head-unit that has blue-tooth so I can play Spotify. After that see where it takes me.

Was part of RS246.com forum and did a few meets, so always up for a drive, car show or meet up to meet new people.

Anyway nice to meet you all!

Cheers

Duncan

Ha. Thanks. Il write a separate thread for that, not sure of naming and shaming rules but its a long old story, well short in time frame. :(

Welcome to the madhouse.
If you've been lurking you should be well prepared for all the unsolicited advice on how to spend more money on your car!

Hello and welcome to the forum Duncan, nice looking Zed I’m sure you will have lot’s of fun in it :driving:

Welcome to the forum from a fellow 3.0 auto owner.

Don’t ask if anyone has a spare bonnet badge (or more correctly a front bumper badge), nobody has one :tumbleweed: if you find an aftermarket source for a proper 70mm 3 pin copy, please let me know.

Welcome to the club I joined a few months ago now and i have to say we have a helpful bunch of guys on there that know a great deal about Z4s . i have one the same colour as yours but a 2.5. hope you enjoy

Hi and welcome to the forum Duncan, even if you didn't originally plan to join!

I hope you enjoy your unplanned Z4.

Welcome Duncan.

I have a real soft spot for the F13 M6, so would also be interested to hear the story of the one in the pics. Are the problems related to the S63 engine per chance?

Nice looking car, just hope the roof motor was relocated to the boot when it was changed to avoid future problems arising with it.
Also good move to get a decent code reader in your toolbox, it will come in handy sooner than later!!
I can reccomend a Creator 310+ or their latest version 410+, easy to use and quite capable of reading the modules on the car.

Thanks all.

No problems with the engine, well not that we have found. I'll write a longer post in the Dealer section of the forum. Short version is that the car arrived with stereo not working, no sounds from parking sensors etc...Limited paperwork despite saying there was full service history. There is £3k worth of work on fuel lines in what paperwork was handed over.

The car has been de-catted and remapped, found this after through an old advert online, no paperwork about it. Failed MoT on emissions and couple other things in may, which I knew about and asked dealer to sort, which they said they would. Dodgy MoT applied on day of purchase, September, from the dealer. Car absolutely stinks of fuel standing still which was a giveaway really. Top it off car was delivered with missing wheel bolts on 3 of the 4 wheels.

Got DVSA involved and they proved dodgy MoT was applied. Dealer refused rejection even though it was within 7 days of purchase. Then dealer doubled down by claiming the car I part exed was faulty, it wasn't had brand new MoT and service, claiming they needed to do work to it, despite them having sold it on as the logbook had been updated again a week after I part exed it.

Some of this is on me though as I'll explain in the longer post. But you live and learn. :(

There are some extremely dodgy dealers around. sorry to hear your woes with what should be a premium car. Why anyone would want to realistically remap a 550bhp and 600nm M6 is beyond me TBH.

Look forward to reading the whole story.

The Z4 should be a little less troublesome anyway. If for any reason it is, there are numerous very helpful people on this forum who will help out. It really is 'old school' on here
