New Z4 owner

Congratulations on the purchase and welcome to the forum.

I always drove the 3.0Si with the Sport button enabled (mainly for slightly better steering) but have not yet really used it in the M. Tried it a few days ago at a standstill and had a bit of a donkey drive off when I pulled away from the junction.

The sport mode isn't your problem, it's the CDV.

Why BMW set the electronics to need you to manually select "Sport" on start up is beyond my simple mind! Why build a 346BHP Sportscar to ask the driver to have to press a stupid button every time the car is started just to get reasonable throttle response?

Without the "Sport" button selected the Z4M is an absolute slug - & embarrassing to say the least. :? I ALWAYS select "Sport" on start up & personally return over 27 mpg. All my journey's are less than 7 miles (round trip) to buy a newspaper & packet of fags - daily. Yet I've not realised less than 27 mpg in 8 months of ownership. I might add that I regularly hit 120-130 overtaking cars on the way home - but still average 27mpg 8)

I'd disagree all over this statement Mike, I find the standard throttle response very 'reasonable', I also enjoy the additional slip from DSC when sport is engaged, perhaps thats just the fact the back end gets out marginally quicker before being reigned in......

I'd hardly call it a slug, besides, what your actually saying is that its a slug until you press the pedal a furthur 1/2 inch ? Surely your brain sends the foot that way until suitable acceleration is felt eh?

Oh and I've got to ask, do you work in UK and use pubic roads to get to work ? If so, after EVERYTHING you've said, and there has been some BS on here and PH - is it wise to claim that you regulary exceed twice the national speed limit on public roads ? Not so 8) Mike, more

Nearly forgot ! : :tumbleweed:

Did I say that I bought a Z4M & dare not exceed 70mph? Good Golly, perhaps I should have purchased a G-Whizz!! :headbang:

I have to be honest & make it clear that the people (Yes - You) who frequent these forums, need to get a life or do something more interesting like Rogering the wife (or same-sex partner?).

If only that was true - we will miss you.

Anyway welcome to club - ignore the idiot above, depsite what he thinks 99% of people on here are great and really helpful.

I rarely use the sports button for daily driving, like the someone said it is the CDV valve that causes the kangroo effect if you do not get your revves right. I just keep smiling when i do it, it is alway when there are load of people about

PLEASE tell me your a coppa DL-C !!!

That has made my day

Afraid so. These are awsome cars and there is no point owning one if your not going to open it up every now and again, even if it is just to hear the awsome sound they make!! Time and a place though.

I think if you look in the ashtray you will find an Aux in for you ipod Dave ;)

I forgot about that M Mobility thing I do remember looking in the manual now.when I first got the car. I just pinched my tyre weld from my van when we went anywhere far. The Mrs wouldnt know what to do with an air compressor anyway.

Re the sport button I must say in the M3 the effect at low rpm is much more pronounced. I made the mistake of pressing it whilst reversing out of the drive the other day and the car shot backwards!

I do miss the Z4. Looking back it was a bloody brilliant car and your pics of it reminded me :(

Just to get my own back heres one of your M3 from today

Ha, Cheers Jon, still looks awsome , I'm sure you will look after it. If anyone on here is considering getting an M3 for a bit of practicality etc, I'm sure fridaypassion will agree they are great cars and decent ones can be had for silly money these days!

The M3 is a bit like methadone if you want to wein yourself off a Z4M its a good substitute. It would have been a bit of a bump to go straight to a family deisel from the Z4 I think!

so you guys just swapped ?

have to say silver roadsters (& all coupes) look great on csls.. not sure mine would..

I wish Andy, had to put money Fridaypassions way but we both got a good deal and both got good, well looked after cars. Not to mention not getting ripped off by a dealer or some chav offering £50 and a bag of wizz!! Would recommend more people do it, Pistonheads is a good site to do it on.
