New Z4 Owner - What's recommended first?

Hi

I'm expecting delivery of my BMW Z4 3.0si 2003 in a few days :D

I'm new to the forum, but what do people recommend in terms of customisation.

Mines not an M-Sport, so I guess I could add the M-Sport trim. Maybe K&N Filter(?). Vented Disc's? Better radio (minds Business CD).

Also keen to hear of any web sites you recommend for customising Z4's.

i personally wouldnt bother with any of the mods u mentioned...
maybe fit the facelift 2006+ front bumper...
but the filter will make no diff....neither will the vented discs id imagine...
 
Suspect you have an "se" if it's a 2003 model. As the others have said - have nose around the forum and see what takes your fancy. Getting rid of the runflat tyres, if it has them, is the single biggest upgrade, in my opinion. A stubby is necessary if you want to avoid persecution. :D
 
As far as I know, there was no "3.0si" before the 2006 facelift. You must mean the 3.0i M54B30


Vented discs if you track your car regularly. Otherwise, they can be a bother - more noise, more dust, less bite when cold, a greater risk of micro-cracks.

The K&N oil filter has a reputation of fouling up the MAF sensor, so it's up to you.

But there are many mods that are cheap and more effective than the "placebo" ones.

You could buy M Sports shock absorbers and a nice set of Eichbach springs (lower than the M Sport ones and less likely to crack).


As said above, ditch the runflats.

Try the sound generator mod.

Modify the pre-facelift yellow lights.

Don't foul up your reception with the stubby. :poke: :poke:

A search of this forum can yield a mine of information - just follow some of the enthusiasts here and the mods they have installed on theirs Zeds.

Your 2003 3.0SE has the M sport suspension as standard, it also has Vented Discs Front & Rear IIRC, do mean slotted or drilled discs?
If it's only the Business CD then upgrading the HU is easy, once you master taking out the centre vents.
Headlights are the biggest headache especially if you have Xenons if you want to update to the newer clear indicators, rear lights you have a couple of different options.
If it has not been fitted I can't recommend an M Sport steering wheel enough, it transforms the feel of the car.
As for websites for customising the Z4 there is not that much out there, if anything searching this forum is probably the best resource for modifications there is.
This is a thread of what I've done to mine over the last 9 years of ownership.
I am not alone in carrying these mods and have taken inspiration for most of them from other forum members.
 
Drive the car for a while, and discover what you like about it first - then you can make an informed decision on you might want to change. The factory did a pretty good job ... :)

A clay bar, some polish, some wax and 2 buckets to start with.

A days graft and then stand back and admire :D

West CDA is correct though, don't change it unless you want to. Was at the Midlands meet yesterday, some heavily modded and looking good but the ones that weren't also looked amazing. Basically all the forum guys and girls love their zeds and try to keep them at their very best. Looking forward to pics :thumbsup:
 
None of the above... as you first need a good hoon, not only for the cruzin but also to give you lots of ideas in the flesh about what your Zed needs
