I've recently purchased a 3.0i Z4 which I've owned for almost a week. It's quite an upgrade from my old 1.6L Mx5!

Absolutely loving the driving experience so far (and the fact I actually fit in this one!).

Here is a couple of pictures for anyone whos interested:

There is one issue I've noticed which I'd like to get some advice on.

When starting the car for the first time it only takes a few seconds and starts fine. If for example, I make short journey to the shops and start the engine a few minutes after, the engine seems to take longer to start and almost makes a ticking or pulling sound. I've done some research and I'd hope it would be something as simple as the starter motor potentially starting to fail. I'm more than happy to take it to a garage but it would be good to take influence from some of the more seasoned pros on the forum who may have come into a similar fault.

Any advice is greatly apprechiated!

Welcome to the forum, nice looking example, where about's are you. Maybe worth seeing if a local forum member could have a look at your car. Doesn't sound like a big problem.

Welcome to Z4 ownership and the forum, the 3.0 are great cars. Agree with Firebobby, if you let the forum member’s know where you are I am sure someone with more knowledge would be able to look at the car and possibly advise. Cheers

Thanks for the warm welcome and advice so far. I'm down Brighton way, do we know any members who might be able to assist?
I'm not expecting the world, it would just be good to get some advice on the issue.

Another quick question, does anyone have any good contacts or references for garages which do a backbox delete? I've also read you've have to select new exhaust tips which would be a shame as my current tips are in fantastic condition.

Thanks again!

That's quite a step up!

Your car looks great, especially on those wheels.

Shortly after I got my current one it always started OK from cold, but used to struggle to turn over when hot. I mentioned it to my BMW Indy and he suggested it may be a tired starter motor, but not long after I had to get a new battery (it was the 10 year old original) and it's been fine ever since.

It might be worth comparing the battery voltage with the ignition off with what it shows when the engine is running if you know anyone with a voltmeter.

The thing is the battery was replaced back in March, so it's more likely to be a starter motor or some other fault causing the issue.

Thanks for the tip though, I'll look into checking the voltage as you suggested.
