New Z4 Owner in Somerset

Hi all.

Thought I'd join the forum as I picked up my 3.0si Roadster on Friday. I'd never driven one before I agreed to buy it, knew I'd love it and I do.

It came from Porsche in Bournemouth, they'd taken it as PX against a Boxster. '56 plate in grey with black leather. Has the all important heated seats (well they're important to me) and those split rim alloys which look great. (I know they can be a bit of a pain but I love the look of them). Only covered 26k miles.

I'll post some pics when the thing is out of my garage on a sunny day.

Two minor niggles, firstly, condensation in the foglamps. I'll try and sort it. Secondly one of the keys won't remotely unlock (but it will lock).

Beautiful car to drive though, and whilst I'd like to lose the run flat tyres, they're virtually new.

Anyway, that's me and my Z4.

Yes, I will do some pics. It's just a bit dull here and I don't want to start the thing just to move it out of the garage for photos.

Welcome. Take both keys with you on trips, but use the one that's acting up in the car. That behaviour is exactly what my last car's keys did when I got it. It's simply a flat battery and it will recharge in the ignition. Get a few long drives in and it will be good.

Hi and welcome  Looking forward to the pics...........have you thought about moving if its too dull where you live?
Sorry bit cheeky but could'nt resist it

The weather is dull, but just a few short miles away is the road along the top of the Blackdown Hills. A short but stunning stretch that can look quite amazing in the Autumn sun.

Took Mrs Budfox for her first drive in the car there yesterday, and gave the car some beans on the way to the golf club for lunch. A piece of sheer driving pleasure.

One other thing, I took the foam out of that sound generator tube, didn't seem to make a lot of difference. Presumably one has to be approaching the red line?

Thanks for the tip on the key, how does it charge up when in the ignition? There's no connector as such. Is it inductive charging? (which I doubt).

Hi and welcome.
Where are you in Somerset?
If you removed the large piece of foam from the generator nearest the bulk head the difference is quite noticeable over about 4000 rpm. Try it without both pieces.

I'm in Wellington. There's no foam in that tube any more, took it all out at once. Maybe I didn't listen to it very intently on the drive home before I took the foam out yesterday.
I was expecting something very obvious, but it didn't happen. Perhaps I'll put it all back again and see if I can tell the difference next time.

Hi and welcome mate - Ah Somerset ! We used to live in village just outside Glastonbury - lovely part of the country :D

Well this is all very friendly.

Shall try to put some pics up tomorrow evening. I'm taking the car to work as long as it isn't hosing down so should have a chance for some photos during the daytime.

Hi and welcome, what a small world I sent several emails about the car you purchased, got one reply but not the one for the test drive, and it would have been a day trip to see the car from where I live, I got a z4m in the end literally 1 minute from my house and I'm over the moon with mine as we'll cheers Andy

A fairly small world for sure. I wanted a 3 litre car for under £10k with the assurance of a main dealer warranty. BMW dealers only had a few around the country, and all had done 35-40k miles.

If I recall only one or two had heated seats (essential in my mind), and of those there may have only been one with black leather. I was also keen on the comfort package because of reversing sensors and wanted the M trim too. In an ideal world I'd have also got cruise, plus a wind deflector. I can live without the first, will buy the second.

Looking at used prices on here it seems that £9500 *might* have been too much to pay, but better to pay too much for the right car than buy a car that isn't quite what you're after. I'd been looking for a while, having dismissed a Boxster (too pricey to run), MX-5 (noisy, poor pedal position, no image), SLK280 (Quick but absolutely no fun to drive) and the S2000 and TT as cars I just didn't want.

I took a bit of a punt by putting down a deposit to secure the car, but I was assured that if I didn't like it when I came to collect then I could have my deposit back.

The salesman told me (quite genuinely I'm sure, he was a nice guy) that they could have sold the car at least four more times that week. (Your story supports this).

Anyway, I'm looking after this thing for a couple of summers, chucking no more than another 10k on the clock. During that time it will have two services from a local specialist and I'd like to think it will still fetch decent money in a couple of years.

I was away in Worcestershire when I spotted the car in Bournemouth and thought it would be quicker to get there than from Suffolk but my wife said where on holiday and not looking for cars, I came back home and saw the ///M which was well over my budget but I got around the wife as to me it's a once in a life time buy for me, I have posted a few pics up of it in the newbie section Andy
