New Z4 owner, EML light

Just bought my first Z4 (2004 3.0 SE) very happy, unfortunately, the EML warning light came on a couple of days ago. Took it for an oil and brake service and they ran it through diagnostics. They say throttle gator is split and the O2 breather valve is weak, all in all, 400£ to fix. Anyone else had this issue? Any thoughts on price or difficulty to fix?

Thanks

Thinking of getting the manifold boot pipe replaced my local garage and see if it helps (https://www.lllparts.co.uk/en/mpn/13547514867-bmw)

Hi, you can change the inlet gaiter yourself as it’s not difficult-it’s only about £30 from memory.
See how it runs after that

are we talking about the same thing? (https://www.lllparts.co.uk/en/mpn/13547514867-bmw) ?

Yes, that’s not a difficult job :?

I would like to have a go, I've never done anything like it before, but the videos don't look too bad if you got the tools. So maybe I get tooled up and try.

£400! Strewth. Only tool you need is a flatblade screwdriver for the rubber air intake boot.

The 'O2 breather valve' is probably the EGR valve. Do a search on here for that and you will find lots of info. Also an easy fix (sometimes just need a clean).

Im not sure if it is the upper or lower intake boot

Sorry for sounding stupid, but is that on the upper or lower intake boot? Is it best just replace both? Or try with the upper first as it is easier to replace?

This is the part that splits...

It’s the top one that connects to airflow meter etc. Same as the one in your link.

Thanks for all your help, I see on a Z4 its easier to change than a 330, hopefully will save me 400 quid

Just be careful the jubilee clips are replaced in the correct orientation or you will struggle to tighten them again

Hi, I replaced the boot, all seems to be connected well, but yellow engine light still on, do I need to reset the light somehow, or should it just turn off if that has fixed the problem?

Thanks!

Sadly I think you'll need to find someone who can clear codes to get it turned off.

I managed to find a local forum member to do mine.

400 sponds just to fix those two piddling issues??
I'd be avoiding that garage in the future mate, he's havin a laff!!
