New Z4 owner, airbag light issue

Hello everyone!

I'm (almost) a new Z4 owner (I pick up my 54 plate in 10 days) and I know of a few things that need doing. One potential issue is that the airbag light is on. What would you suggest I need to do to get it turned off? (no airbags have been deployed and the car hasn't had an accident).

Also, if you know of any other issues I should look out for with a car of this age and 100k on the clock, please let me know. I already know to check the roof drain plugs, that the rear springs will have snapped years ago and that the window regulators supposedly fail at some point.

Thanks everyone!

Brad

If a private purchase, get some money off, if its from a garage, get them to fix it, period.

Theres nothing you can do to turn it off other than disable the LED. Its not an MoT failure but its not worth the risk of a potential fault.

It's a private purchase and the price reflects the issues it has I think. But where would you suggest going to get it turned off (without just removing an led!) - there must be a fault code that could be cleared?

Please be aware.....If your airbag light is on, all airbags and seat belt tensioners are disabled. In the event of a crash they will not deploy.
This is not just a case of getting rid of an annoying light.
Find a local independant in your phonebook who can reset it for you, and see if there is any underlying issue, they will be far cheaper than BMW dealers.

Had airbag light on the other week E45 330. cleaned plugs under drivers seat all back to normal, could be those z4 electric greamilns at work, worth a try. :driving:

I wouldnt worry too much about an airbag light putting you of a car. Its a common fault and can be triggered really easily by all sorts of things.
If the cars good, buy it. Then take it somewhere with a diagnostics and they will read the fault and reset it providing all's well.
