Hey guys first time on the forum. Just recently got my 1st z4 2.5si as a 21 year old. Really looking for ideas to increase the power output of the car, really looking for ways to get it up to around 300bhp if this is at all possible. Not looking to spend too much but any ideas would be greatly appreciated. Thanks for any responses. :D

Welcome along... Great car at 21.

Sadly 216 to 300bhp is impossible without throwing in a blower and over £5k! Factor in your age and modding the engine... Well would have been cheaper to get an M!

What could i do to get it slightly faster, currently thinking of cold air intake, and full stainless exhaust system + remap ? Anyone had experiance of electric superchargers?

TBH I think you are really limited what you can do with a N52 engine. I had a 2.5si and it was discussed a few times.

From memory it's mainly due to it's valvetronic engine and lack of throttle bodies make SC etc difficult.

Other options arent really going to improve things, BMW do a good job of getting the most out of these to begin with.

Welcome by the way and where are the pictures :poke: :D

Hello and welcome, for the cost of modifying to get a significant performance gain, it would be cheaper to buy a Z4M

Welcome!

I'm also Craig and also 21... small word!?

I've not driven the 2.5 as by some divine miracle I was able to insure the 3.0si but if thats anything to go by then the map settings are already spot on and a remap would give too little gain for the cost!

I think from the discussed mods your only going to get the noise and placebo effect which is always the case given these engines are naturally aspirated. In less your gain is 10% or above then you wont even notice it.

You've already got a top motor, just enjoy it and the attention that these cars bring!! Spend the money on an outrageous pair of sunglasses is my best advice....... 8)

Why not buy an ///M or 3.0si to start with?

After the cost of getting it to 300bhp you would need to consider uprated brakes etc etc etc to handle the additional power. It all gets so costly you'd be cheaper buying an ///M.

I suspect the answer will be 'insurance'... but that probably doesn't factor in any hike in premium that doing performance related mods would bring. If indeed they would be prepared to entertain it for a 21 yr old driver.

As other have said though: you've got a nice car, enjoy it and don't forget to post some pics!

Indeed insurance on a modded 2.5si with 300bhp would be more than an ///M I reckon.

Yes, enjoy the car. 2.5si has plenty of poke when the loud pedal is pushed hard enough

I turned 21 in March and bought my 3.0si coupe in May and pay £1400-1500 a year up front (in monthly installments it would of been £6000) I also did a quote for the ///M and a Porsche 911 which came back as £1998 (also upfront payment) When factoring in running costs ect I was happy to settle for the 3.0si in the end and use left over cash to get away!
