New Z4 buyer - help with specification

Hi, I am wondering if anyone can help me. I have just purchased a Z4, and I am trying to understand which model I have, the information I have is as follows:
BMW Z4 E85
Convertible
2.5i
M// on the steering wheel
2008 plates

The garage I purchased it from listed it as a 'sport' however I can't find any info on this online - do they mean 'MSport' as this is on the steering wheel?

Also what is the difference between 2.5i and 2.5si?

Finally I keep reading conflicting power online, some websites imply it is 177bhp and 0-60 in 7.1s while some list it as 192bhp and 0-60 in 6.8.

I have been scouring the internet for hours trying to work out what specification and model I have but I'm simply not sure. How might I find this information out?

Any help greatly appreciated!

Hello and welcome!

The code that is made up of numbers and letters, found on one of the strut towers in the engine bay, should be a starting point.
You can use this or the registration number and give BMW a call. They should be able to give you some specs.

The pre-facelift (2003-2005) cars were badged with the suffix "i", so the 2.5i had the 192 bhp you quoted. There were also 2.0 (four cylinder) and 2.2 and 3.0 engines (six cylinders, like the 2.5).

The post-facelift six cylinder cars dropped the 2.2L, but had two different power outputs on the 2.5. Those badged 2.5i were the lower power varient, effectively replacing the 2.2. This is the 177bhp you quote. The other is badged as 2.5si, and is more powerful than the pre-facelift at 215bhp. You therefore have either the 2.5i 177bhp or the 2.5si 215bhp model.

The "sport" is a trim level, and refers to stiffer springs, slightly lowered (10mm lower) and the addition of the sport steering wheel and seats.

As Aeroadster says, getting the VIN and putting it into a VIN decoder (search the forum for a link) will tell you which model you have, as well as the factory fitted options.

Hi,

I have a 2007 2.5si which has the 215bhp instead of the 177 bhp and a quick way to tell but not 100% is mine has the 2.5si badge next too the side indicator / repeaters. Like I said not always accurate because people can change the badges but if yours say 2.5i then you most probably have that and not the si model
