New Z4 boot space with roof down.

Looks are growing on me, but the trunk space and the word "refined" detract from it. I like my sports cars on the edge a bit more. If I had wanted "refined" I would have bought an SLK rather than my Z4 coupe.

JonnyI- here is the first post from our most recent new z4 owner- doesn't seem to think we are all that bad!

Hello to all,

I have just seen my new z4 on the trailer outside the dealer (benefits of working right next to one ) and it's really started to get me excited about getting in and driving it everywhere. So much so that I've spent the last 2 hours browsing around on this forum.

Just like to say that you all seem really nice and you haven't helped at all to get my mind off my new car!

Two things I did want to know, how long does it take from arrival at the dealer to actual delivery and is there a run in time on the new Z4's?

Din

Opinion is divided on the requirement for running in on modern vehicles, but given the potential cost of not doing it and the relatively small cost of doing it, I always err on the side of caution and take it easy for the first 1,500 miles.

Why they even put a hard top on it is beyond me. The old rag top is lovely and insulated, for sound and heat, imho.

Just seems to be making it heavier and less roomy for no real benefit except less noise (in a bloody quiet sports car already!?)

Z4 by name, not really Z4 by nature.

Can you define what a "Z4" should encompass whippy?

The car appears to have gone upmarket and away from the likes of you and me in order to appeal to those with deeper pockets. Consumer demand obvioulsy, who are we to argue with the millions BMW spend on consumer requirements, denotes the metal folding roof is the way forward. The new E93 looked heavy upon first appearing 2 years ago whereas now it looks the norm and imo the way forward.

Cloth tops will be left for the purist sports cars and cheaper mainstream car models in order to keep cost and weight down. Metal folding roofs are the future.

I really do like the looks of the new Z4. The interior is just classy.... but a Z4 coupe looks a bit better from the outside....

I crawled all over one last week. Yes, the trunk (boot) is small, but if I am buying this car, it is not for boot space.... This seems to be the biggest complaint I read about this car from current Z4 owners...

I do think the hardtop mechanicals are very complicated. (overly??) But I guess that is what you get by moving to a hardtop.... I bet the manual softtop crowd said the same thing about the motor operated softtops.. too complicated....

paddy wright: 90% people here bashing new Z4 with stupid arguments. I know what is reason for that. E85 owners were cool until E89 was presented. Now they aren't cool anymore, because they are driving old cars which became cheap and 95% people can afford it. Its still a good car, but feeling driving an old car isn't same as driving a new car.

There are a few people here who like new Z4, but just compare how much more people bashing it. I have nothing against E85 owners, you are still driving a good cars, but I find interesting how much they have to say against new Z4, which is better in every area. When reading all those posts I get feeling that 90% E85 owners doesn't sleep well after they saw E89.

Even Ferrari California got hardtop. Face it, we live in 2009 and not in 1950, when they used rag tops.

Finally something I can agree with you... Yes, if E85 is Z4, then E89 shouldn't be called Z4, but ..... Z10.

new Audi A5 convertible is soft top :D

gannet: Since when Audi is reference ? Audi also got LED stips, like christmas tree

Still waiting for an M ... then I will get excited

Thats OK, you have a Z4 M, so real replacment for your car still isn't available yet. But funny is how owners of pre-facelifted E85 with small engines have to say against new Z4

I heard that soon will be offered Z4 with M package with a little more powerfull N54 engine.

Haven't they said they won't be doing one? Or it may have been that they said they won't be doing V8s in Ms in future ... my mind is riddled at the moment.

BTW, I hate the SDrive35i naming - how spazzy is that?

People saying the future is in hard top convertibles - yourself included by including the california. Best of my knowledge all Audi convertibles are soft top (TT, A3, A4, A5...). Wonder why they haven't jumped on the tin top bandwagon is all?

and what is a 'stip' :poke:

the naming even confused the guy at my dealer who phoned me yesterday - would I like a drive in the 2.3 or 3.0 litre model

There wasn't going to be one in the E85 series either ...

Because it adds around 150kg to the weight of a roadster, more to a 4 door. Flys in the face of planned weight savings to improve efficiency. BMW has done very well with Efficient Dynamics, and they make the best engines vs Audi (IMO). 150kg is probably worth a few mpg overall.

BTW, the California looks rather naff in the flesh - looks like a Peugeot from the front and rather bland and 'hippy' from the rear. I'll take a 599 any day, or an LP560 crop top if I need the roof to come off.

So I asked since when Audi is reference ? And Audi TT is real roadster with their FWD

Audi announced a few weeks ago that they will make energy recovery system and those things like BMW's Efficient Dynamics got. So they are a few years behind BMW. But they were first with LED strips
