I was in Denver, Colorado this past weekend and took a couple of hours to check out the autoshow. It was sad for the most part as there were few cars there of interest, except: the new Z4 and the Hyundai Genesis Coupe.
In my humble opinion:
First the Z4. It is gorgeous from the rear wheels forward. It looks much better in person. The hood is cool like the Z3's. However in person, the back is too big and looks too much like the 6 series, but doesn't quite fit the "GT cruiser" idea. The car is too big for my tastes as a fun flippable roadster and too small to be a GT. The dash and interior are beautiful and much nicer than our cars. Fit and finish is great. As big as the rear is, there is NO truck. I know there is a space back there and they call it a trunk, but with the top down, it is half the size of the trunk on my wife's MINI Cooper. Waste of space. It's fine if you want to make a trip and never plan on putting the top down, but what's the point? Put the top down and the truck space disappears. No thanks. I wait for the Z2 and a proper cloth top. Too bad, I thought I would like having a hard top convertible.
The Coupe. Wow, I was impressed. For the price the fit and finish were fantastic. It looks much better in person. The seats feel great. I can't wait to test drive one. I know it won't handle like our cars, but for the money it will may make a great track car or weekday fun commuter when the weather is bad and you don't want to pull the Z4 out of the garage. It seems to be a really nice car.
