Just bought a 2007 z4 3.0si roadster with sport package and premium package. The interior and exterior look brand new the previous owner took amazing care of it. Problem is the top won’t go down. But I’m fine doing it manually for right now but does anyone know how to connect Bluetooth it says it has Bluetooth but I can’t figure out how to get my phone to connect to it.

Welcome to the forum and Z ownership. Sorry can’t help with the top issue but I am sure someone on the forum will be able to. Look forward to photo’s

Hi, don’t take it to Bmw for the roof fix as they’ll take all your money. Get your post count over 3 & you can pm a choice of roof experts on here who’ll get it working and relocated to the boot where it can’t flood again

Hi and welcome to the forum.

3.0Si is a good choice too - they do go pretty well!

As Smartbear says there are people on here who can often revive roof motors, and relocate them into the boot so they don't get drowned for sensible money - it just depends where you are!

Sadly I can't help with Bluetooth as mine doesn't have it.

Did anyone mention photos yet?

Welcome to the forum and hope you enjoy the car and the knowledge and camaraderie on here! Can't help but smile about you being more concerned about hooking up the Bluetooth than fixing the roof  ...I guess it shows my age that I'd be stressing big time about the roof first!...good luck with the Bluetooth, Im sorry to say I can't help either

The pair button for the bluetooth is on the lid of the drop down cubby between the seats. The pairing procedure is a bit fickle but if (like me) you are still pulling your hair out after numerous attempts you probably have a broken wire where the cables flex. Read all about that here....

Thanks everyone lol yeah the top as long as I can put it down doesn’t really bother me but not being able to have Bluetooth is going to drive me crazy  I’ll look for the button I didn’t think to look for the pairing button to be there but leave it to BMW to hide the button

I think I saw your new car online , about 150 k ish and 6 grand if I remember.
Sorry to hear your top wouldn't go down.
Sweet looking car, do you have any finish peeling off the outter wheel rims?
Jim

Welcome to the forum, love the interior. Welcome also to the rare wood dash club :)
Is your roof making any noises when you press the button...does the part above the windscreen start to lift ??

When you press the button to lower the top it unlocks but that’s about it the motor in the back you can hear running but the top just won’t move. I was told the hydraulic pump or wires might need to be replaced. And yup you’re right she has 150k miles and sticker price was 6k but after taxes etc she was more like 7k. Not sure if she has stock exhaust or not but she sounds amazing I was planning on buying a z4 and deleting the back box and maybe straight piping it but she sounds so good now I couldn’t imagine the exhaust sounding any better. No finish peeling there was a small scrape on 1 of the wheels from the previous owner scraping a curb but that’s about it.

Your car looks great.

But is clearly not in the UK, which I think is where all the roof motor gurus on the forum are.

But there is a guide for doing it here if you are handy with a wrench:- https://www.bimmerfest.com/forums/showpost.php?p=8363705&postcount=114

lol definitely not in the UK I’m in CA where they charge an arm and a leg for the smallest of things at the dealership. I was going to have a go at it myself and if I can’t do it I was gonna take it to a family friend that owns a independent shop that only works on foreign/import cars he fixed my 2007 Audi 2.0t A4 Quattro Cabriolet when the turbo went out

Yes, it was only when I saw the photo I realised.

If the motor is dead I'm sure I read somewhere that it's possible to fit one from a Mustang - which is probably much cheaper than a BMW one.

Good luck.

You say the top motor releases and then you can hear the lower roof motor working ?
Have you tried moving the red knob in the boot ?
Oh sorry, I mean trunk

It will be the manual release plunger on the motor that is seized in. That still means a motor strip down to clean it up and lubricate unfortunately. The motor itself is probably ok.

I looked at it but didn’t think that could be the problem. By moving do you mean pulling it out and turning it or turning it while it’s pushed in. I’ll definitely give this a try before trying to remove the hole top :D hopefully this will work if it does that means they gave me a perfectly fine car with a huge discount over something that wasn’t even a real problem

The red handle operates the manual release plunger on the motor. If you can move the roof by hand then the plunger on the motor is in....the problem being is that the plunger tends to stick in irrespective of whether the red handle has been released or not. You might get lucky, but I doubt it!

You may get lucky, worth a try, but ph001 has a good point.
To get to the motor, you don't have to remove the roof. Check out the roof motor threads as they should give you the info on how to get at the motor, in situ.
