Hi there all just thought i would say hello

Will be picking up a 2006 3.0 Si on Friday from Sytner Coventry, it will be my wife’s car.

It all started with needing a more fuel efficient car as we are moving house and she will be doing 25+ miles a day.
She said that she would like a Peugeot 205cc and i said hell no way, we then looked and the new shape MR2 but was put off by the dated looking dash board, then looked at the new shape MX5 but she said it looked like a boat!, then looked at the Mini convertible but i think it looked hideous with the roof down.
We then went to look at a Honda S2000 at a local Honda dealer, we both really liked them both the look with the hood up or down. We were ready to do the deal there and then but i asked to see the service history, the car was advertised with full Honda service history! i looked and it had done over 28,000 miles since its last service and it had done them miles in 12 months yes 28k in 1 year, we walked away.

That night after looking on the auto trader site for another S2000 i found out that the tax is £405 per year, and this was supposed to cheaper to run car ! So i had a look at the Z4 and found the tax to be £215 per month bonus.

Z 4 it was, i had a look on this forum and found out the 2.0 would not be for us but the 2.5 looked to be the one for us.

I called up Jeff James from Sytner Coventry after having excellent service from him on our last purchase i thought it would be best place to go. They had a few used Z4 in stock and we arrange a test drive of them. As this car was manily for the wife i said you test them and decide which one you like and then i would road test it just to make sure it was ok.
Remember she wanted a fuel efficient car, she like the 3.0 best
So that it deal done and will be picking it up on Friday :D

S2K tax is over £400 a year??!?!
I was half tempted to buy one of those...and i would have totally overlooked the price of tax!
But sounds like u got a sweet car fella! :D

Welcome

Good story of buying and the different choices - some range of cars you looked at. Didn't realise S200 was horrendous on tax either! MX5 is lovely though, especially the newer most-facelifted one that mimics (in my eyes) the S2000's front end a bit...

The S2000 wasn't in that tax bracket when i had mine. Back before all the C02 emmisions were scrutinised. So what kind of deal did you get?

Hi all thanks for the warm welcome

Q: What fuel consumption do you lot get with the 3.0 ??

Hi and welcome, so why was the Z4 not even on the list to begin with then?
We / She did like them but initially did not want to spend that much to be honest.

I looked a new MX5 and thought it wanted lowering about 6 inches! did like the S2000 but the tax is just too high.

Yep, I should've said that about the MX5 - I think it sits way too high too but overall I like it :)

I'm the older engine too and average just under 31mpg (working it out myself, but the trip computer says 33mpg...). The newer ne should be 2-3mpg better.

Welcome.
What are you coming from if a 3.0 is a more fuel efficient car?

mid 30's are easily reachable if the commute is motorwayish driving and kept to 70. (on a 231 3.0 anyway, an Si can't be too much diff).

M5 E60 which returns 13 MPG around town and 17-18 on the motorway
So around 30 MPG will be big improvement.

Paul V,

what colour / spec is it?

- I ask, because I traded in my 2006 3.0si sport roadster to the same dealer. Wondered if it was my old car.

- a long shot, but you never know! :)

Either way, they are a great choice, - congtrats!
