New Year... new rattle

All, i've been rattle free for a good 6 months but approx. 4 weeks ago i picked up a new one and its a whopper!

Behind my right ear there is a loud rattle/plastic thumbing sound, does not happen in normal smooth driving, its not constant and only happens when i hit decent size bit of uneven road - sounds like two plastics parts coliding. Only thing i can think thats related is i put the roof storage area in the boot up for the fist time just after xmas to give the boot a bit more space.

Any thoughts on what i should look for?
 
how would i check if thats the problem? can i check visually without getting the car up on ramps?

also what happens if the springs break?

you've got me worried now :(
 
I had similar sound when mine broke.

I noticed no adverse affect with the broken spring - couldn't even see any difference in ride height :o maybe I just wasn't driving it hard enough...

Warranty ran out 18 days ago :(

wish me luck asking BMW to fix it for free... i wont hold my breath
 
Same happened to mine - warranty ran out, couple months later pop goes the spring and no joy from BMW in my case :( heard others have had more luck mind...
 
Took it to an Indi today to get checked, both rear springs broken. £230ish to replace both.

Cant be bothered arguing with BMW, bottom line cars out of warranty.
 
Ewans despription of his rattle was identical to mine. I've just come back from the dealers, and they found that both rear springs had broken!
They've quoted me £318 to do both, which I didn't think was too bad. Now taken out a warranty in case anything else falls off! :cry:
