New year new desires

Whilst at Rybrook this week collecting my new key I was really attracted to the beautiful gloss black wheels that so many of these new beemers sport these days. Has anyone got any photos of Stirling grey with gloss black 224's that they'd like to post before I book my wheels in to the paintshop :D

tomscotts silver grey on dark 224s looked mighty fine , great combo :driving: go for it

I liked that
I thought about shadow chrome for ages but the cost was ridiculous......trouble is I saw a M4 in gloss black with gloss black wheels and ooooh it was so gorgeous.

It's a marmite thing....black wheels

I love cars on black wheels, especially brighter coloured ones. The phoenix yellow looks superb with black I think, in fact I saw one recently for sale on the standard silver wheels and it looked quite ordinary. My last car had black wheels too - they were actually anthracite but suited the car brilliantly.

Thanks Dewi
That MX5 looks so nice....I prefer gloss to the satin or matt black.
Ooooh I'm getting the urge to just do it :)

It drove like crap for a MX5 though, the suspension was very crashy and it bump steered badly. I was going to fit coilovers to it but then the roof started making expensive grinding noises. Took it into the dealer with a months warranty still left and they didn't want to know so I got rid sharpish - around £1400 to repair it. That's how come I ended up with the Z4

Blimey
Thought MX5s were fairly bullet proof

In all fairness the Sport Black was my 3rd MX5, the previous 1994 Mk1 and 2010 Mk3.5 1,8 cars were very good but the 2.0 litre Sport Black - A 2011 - felt very poorly made, the driver's side leather seat bolster was wearing badly too at just 11k miles and the underside was rusting away quite merrily, it would have been an MOT failure in just a few more years. The most disappointing aspect of it though was the handling, even after lowering onto Mazda recommended Eibach springs and two attempts at laser alignment on a Hunter rig it wasn't much better. It was very under damped and over sprung - you certainly knew when you hit a pothole mid bend as the car could end up bouncing onto the other side of the road. It was a bit of a lottery! Nice engine though, but it could have done with a few more horses, and the 6 speed gearbox was nice enough.

All I need to do with the Zed is get it onto some decent tyres, I'm not a huge fan of the runflats. Other than that it's a pretty well sorted chassis, so I'm hoping for a transformation when the new rubber is fitted in the new year.

I want a carbon black/Titan silver/silver grey with red leather seats Z4M coupe or E46 M3 in Estoril Blue or carbon black or silver grey! I will be back ;)

I think black wheels are awful had gunmetal grey 224s on my Silver grey Z4M and gloss black on my Mini Cooper S. Not only do the wheels blend into the car to the point they hide the design they are awful to keep clean they scratch like buggery and look so dull as soon as you take one drive forever cleaning them. Will never have either colour again.

Not a fan here either, it hides the details of the wheels. These were mine when I picked them up. I sent them straight off the be returned to factory though.

May been worse being black on black.

black rims look great on silver cars, I had black Superleggera's on my Vx220 silver and looked ace but on dark paint I'd stick with lighter shades. personal pref though.

Wow quite a mixed bag there :D
Nice to hear everyone's views and different reasons for their preferences...
I thought your coupe looked superb Tom

I, like you Dewi can't wait to change to non - rfts as in this cold weather they are awful.
Thanks guys but would still love a photo of sterling grey with gloss black 224s if anyone has one :D
