Is it just roadster (with soft-top) owners running different car in winter because of the roof insulation? Coupe and E89 owners do not have such problem.

I drove my car with 2+ in of snow at the start of the year... for me the issue was not the soft top but with it being rwd...

If i could get a cheapo fwd hatch back that i could insure then i would be very tempted in sorn'ing my car for the winter months.

Don't think so. I find the soft-top roof pretty well insulated. But then that's just me....

I think a winter hack car is the best idea! Better than winter tyres anyway. It's the route I looked at although not seriously as I've got no extra space outside the house for parking another car. We've already got 3 vehicles (hers, my Z4, campervan) and there's no chance I could justify another vehicle!

+1 no problems with the roof here either :D

With gallons of hot air available from the heating system, plus with heated seats, I can drive fairly comfortably with the top down in cold weather,..so top up should not be a problem.

I bought a polo as a run around car too - fantastic being able to never clean it and park it anywhere without worrying :D

Motoring freedom

I used to have a second car, great if your loaded and can afford something decent but chances are you will be driving something sh'ter than your Z and will get fed up with it soon enough! Just enjoy the fact your car is no good in the snow etc because it is awesome for 9 months of the year!

Winter Beater cars......I've got a '93 Buick Regal I'll let go for $500. It runs ok and most of the paint is still on it......It was my Dad's.

No Custard required.
