New Windscreen Fitted - Trim Looks Bodged

I had a new windscreen fitted today after a recent stone chip started to crack. The fitter also installed brand new trim as they are apparently not re-usable. When the job was finished I noticed the corner trim was not seated properly and I was told by the fitter this was normal and the trim "needed time to settle". I'm not convinced and I know I'll be making a call to National Windscreens on Monday to get this situation resolved.

Here is what it currently looks like

Clearly this isn't right and it won't be a case of the trim needing to to settle. I think this is probably down to the fact the replacement trim is of poor quality. I have been looking for a close up photograph of my original trim in case I need to show the company what it should look like, but I have been unable to find one. If anybody has a close up picture of the genuine trim or if anybody could take a snap for a comparison I'd be grateful

They did mine exactly the same, said it didn't do anything anyway was just there for aesthetics, looked really poor.

Its clearly not right.I wouldnt accept.
Get them back , with a different fitter who can do the job properly .

Cheers Ranski, that is neat looking trim, exactly what I was after.

Did they do anything to resolve it mate?

Not sure why anyone would use a third party fitter as I have heard nothing but issues from wind noise to bad fitting.

Dealer each time for me.

Agreed, I had mine done last month, agreed a price with dealer and then rang insurance company. Had to pay out of my own pocket and claim back. Took 2-3 weeks but they paid in full, minus the windscreen excess.

My replacement was not perfect. But not as bad as that :o

I did to know you can do this - I'll be going that route in future, good advice

It looks terrible, if that is the fitters best, then would hate to see his worst :o

Hope you get it sorted soon

On my first 7 series when they (i.e. autoglass) replaced the window, they used some scraping tool to get the glass out so after a year I had to get the whole window surround resprayed as it was rusting everywhere around the glass.

That was the only time I ever used these outfits.

You generally do a bit more for a dealer fit but it is worth it to me for the extra £50 or so.

I had the same thing happen recently. They said it was only aesthetic but still, it wasn't like that before they replaced it.

In the end the fitter who came out agreed it was badly fitted and a non genuine trim, so replaced it. Be aware that the windscreen needs to be removed again to allow removal and re-fit of trim.

Mine ended up cracking as it was such a shoddy fit:

And heres the genuine one that they fitted. much better:

If you have it done at a dealer, they just get a windscreen company in to fit it.
The trim will settle,it's because it's been sat on a shelf for god knows how long.

why did you accept that ? national windscreens replaced mine and they did perfect job first time .

Had exactly the same problem when I had mine replaced a few weeks ago. I refused it and said I wanted them to use an OEM surround which they agreed to do. New windcreen and OEM rubber fitted perfectly. I would get them to change it.

I haven't accepted it mate, I'll be making my representations to National Windscreens tomorrow. Glad they did yours properly first time, it's good to know they are capable of doing a good job!

Cheers for that, it's exactly what I'll be doing :)

Thanks for all your replies, I'll keep you posted on how I get on...

I'm sure it'll.be fine, although when I phoned up they got arsey telling me I shouldn't have accepted it at the time.

Yes, maybe if you haven't finished the job when it was pitch black and in torrential rain you idiots!

i had my front screen replaced a few times through the ownership period with my e85 and Autoglass did something similar with mine.

The rubber was a pattern part and it showed. admittedly it was nowhere near as bad as yours. they got a new trim in, removed the screen and put an OEM rubber trim in and it was sound.

OEM trim is the only way to go.

Fals economy for them in my opinion.

I think my windscreen is original but it looks like this (apologies for the Cumbrian fly debris)...
