New Wheels

Hi all

Bit of advice needed here. I have had my Z for a couple of months now and have been planning to change my wheels. I had planned on getting a set of 108's but after reading a number of threads on here am i right in saying that they corrode v quickly ???

The next option was to look at replica CSL's. Has anyone got any experiences of these (are they good or a bit naff?) or recommend a good set/maker ???

Finally, if i stepped up to 18's on "proper" tyres, would the ride quality still be better than running on 17's with RFT's (deffo a tyre made for smooth American and not lumpy UK roads).

If I get some good advice I promise not to add //M badges to my car

part of the problem with 108's will depend on how you look after them, mine had very minimal corrosion when they were replaced after 2.5 years.

I thought about changing mine so the replacements would be mint and would probably gone for CSL reps or similar.

regarding 18" and proper tyes such as Falken 452's I am guessing that the ride would be at least if not better than 17" with RFT's

Cheers for the advice. I'm thinking M6 18" reps wrapped in Falkens. Just got to decide on the colour :?

I just switched (yesterday) from 17" 103's with RFT to 18" Z4M wheels with non-RFT... the ride is sooooo much better.

I wouldn;t let the corrosion issues put you off 108s, they're a great-looking wheel.

I've had a dilemma over my 108s. Currently in process of refurbing them but not sure whether to keep them afterwards or look out for a set of 107s (the ellipsoids). Not on the basis that they'll corrode again - they shouldn't as they've been refurbed and protected properly! But I've always admired the 107s and now that I'll have my 108s in a saleable/swappable condition I'm tempted to try...

mafoo, where are you getting the m6 wheels from? and how much are they with the falkens? if you dont mind me asking

M6 wheels don't suit the Z4 at all imho.

I think the CSL reps (good ones), will look better, be better quality ones available (ie light and strong), and will be worth more come resale too.

108's do corrode, and always will do, the nature of lacquer over polished metals only... just time is the factor, and care.

107's are a good choice, very "Z4" looking wheels.

i disagree, i think the m6 wheels suite the car, especially the ones with black inners on a black car.

each to his own i suppose. CSL reps do look good i agree with you on that one lol.

Not 100% correct as it depends on the type/quality of lacquer used. I own loads of lacquered bike bits and they last perfectly well, just the sh*te lacquer that BMW/BBS use on their wheels from new.

Got to be honest and say I'm personally not a huge fan of M6 reps on the Z4 either, but everyone has different tastes :)

They dont come with Falkens but have a mate that can get me a good deal on them.

hey, if you havent already bought them, i checked ebay today and you can get them quite a bit cheaper, especially if you get them with no rubber
