New (used car) purchase

Hi everyone,

Some of you may have seen in the buy section that I am looking at at buying a Roadster, can someone help me with understanding where all the engine/chassis numbers are on these cars for verification purposes when I go and view on the weekend?

I know about the one in the window on the dash. I think there is also one on the suspension strut thing under the bonnet. Is there another under/ near the drivers seat?

Another under the bonnet somewhere?

Any others would be great to know.

Just want to make sure it's not a Ringer/ cut and shut job for peace of mind. :driving:

Winscreen and offside front strut you will find the codes, not sure on other places.

If your that unsure though it has to be worth doing an HPI check just for the finance clearing side of things.
 
I used the AA for a HPI check a couple of months back.

£25 for peace of mind. I think you get 3 separate checks for that, and seemed as comprehensive as it could be.

Good luck, are you going this weekend? What roadster (age/mileage/engine) are you after?
 
HPI's differ alot, google 'HPI comparison' to find some sites with charts explaining this better. They are not all the same in terms of what gets checked.
 
Just to point out in case people aren't aware, HPI is actually a company name. It's a similar thing when people say hoover, they actualy mean a vacum cleaner. What you are after is a vehicle data check, another reputable company is Experian. You'll find sites like the AA and RAC actually source there data from either HPI or Experian.

Yes that was the plan for this weekend, its a 3.0 2006 black with 48,000 miles.



Does anyone know where else to look on the car for other identification numbers?
I am planning to do the HPI check, but would also like to check that any numbers on the car are as they should be.
