New tyres

Hi guys

Does anyone have experience of Avon ZZ3 tyres? My two rears are worn badly on the inside so I'm gonna replace. I'm told the ZZ3 are no longer available and that they have now been replaced by the ZZ5. I've had a good look at the current tyres and there is no mention of them being run flats. Does anyone know if they are RF or not?

Cheers

I don't recall the ZZ3 being available as a runflat, but you'd probably want to swap them out even if they were.

Don't think Avon (car/road tyres) are any better than performance road tyres from Kumho, Hankook, Falken, Vredestein, Yohohama or similar brands, but they're a step below the premium performance tyres (Michelin Piliot Sport 4, Michelin Pilot SuperSport, Goodyear F1A2 or F1A3, Continental SportContact 5P or 6).

Cheers for the reply. It has Avons all round so i was going to get the same make although the tread pattern will be different . I won't be mixing them on the same axle as its just the rears that need changing.

I don't do mega mileage in my Z so the next level of tyre down will be fine for my needs.

Regards

Its not really about your mileage or ride quality/handling performance etc but peace of mind.
If you have an emergency braking situation in the wet for example and don't quite stop in time before rear ending someone or hitting the pedestrian that has just stepped out in front of you. You will be kicking yourself for scrimping on tyres.

Just my take on it.

I hear what you say but I'm not gonna change all 4 when the fronts still have 5mm or so on them. I only use my Z as a second / hobby car so don't use it when the weathers poor anyway

A quick search online and I found this...
http://www.national.co.uk/tyres/brand/avon/zz3-runflat/

looks like they are or at least can be RF.

I hear what youre saying about RFs but a can of tyre weld will get you to a garage, I had Dunlop Blue Response Sports on my MX5 and they are fantastic, around the same price as well

Just checked that buddy and Avon don't list mine (255/35/18/94Y) as a run flat. They come up with the ZZ5 XL model which is what I've now put on :) Thanks though
