New Tyres

I’ve always thought the Bridgestone RF’ s were ok on the E89 were ok but now after driving a G29 today that was fitted with Michelin non RF rubber now have to admit that I was wrong!

Although my 35is has only circa 9k on the clock, I reckon I’m going to ditch them, hopefully before they ditch me!

What do you think I should do?

Aftermarket wheels and tyres of Used 326‘s and new tyres?

My tyres are usually heading for the Canvas after 9k anyway. :driving:

Ditch them and pop on some lovely Michelins. I'm on my forth set of MPSS now. :D

Aftermarket wheels plus Michelin pilot sport 4s :)

Can I ask if thats what you use and if so which ?

On one of my previous 35is's I had Zito ZS05 alloys with Michelin Pilot Sport 4 tyres. It totally transformed the car going from 326 alloys on run flats.

My current 35is has 326s on Michelin Pilot Super Sports.

The Michelin Pilot Sport 4S is pretty much the best road tyre available that I know of outside of extremities like the Cup2
The 326's on my current car will changed pretty soon once I have them refurbed. Looking at Rota KBFs :)

Info appreciated
Today on the G29 Test Drive was a wake up call!

I can imagine it was haha! Just wait until you drive a 35is with MHD, you will have this exact same feeling all over again! :)

Its not in question the Michelin 4 are impressive in terms of dry / wet grip & comfort drive but my recent experience with the PS4S on 326 19s / E89 i found them incredibly noisy :o tyre roar was off the scale to a point the first time my wife travelled in the car once we broke 60mph on mway she commented " is the car supposed to sound like that " :? no real noise up to 60 but anywhere over the noise level increased with the speedo , i sold the set of 326s fitted current wheelset with Pzeros & silence returned ( all tyres on both sets were approx 6-7mm)
Looked online afterwards they don't rate well in noise levels though do in all other departments so worth a ponder before dumping big money into a set of them /

this was a AutoExpress roadtest on them https://www.autoexpress.co.uk/accessories-tyres/91858/michelin-pilot-sport-4-review

Dry handling 99.70% 2nd
Dry braking 100% 1st
Wet handling 99.80% 2nd
Wet braking 100% 1st
Wet cornering 98.90% 3rd
Straight aqua 99.60% 2nd
Curved aqua 96.00% 3rd
Rolling resistance 98.00% =3rd
Cabin noise 98.00% =8th
Overall 100% 1st

Do it Ron and you’ll wonder why you persisted with the RFT’s for so long, the difference is staggering! I changed mine a few months ago despite like yours my run flats having covered only 10k miles. I wanted tyres that had low noise qualities and went for Dunlop Sport Maxx RT2 - and they certainly deliver on that aspect!

I already carry a small compressor and some tyre gunk - is there a preferred gunk to use these days?
The one I have in the boot is just a Holts can.

What did you do with the old tyres - do I store them, sell them or just skip them?

The tyres are on 326M rims which I’ve changed for something else so the wheels and tyres are sitting in my garage while I decide what to do with them. I think there is a market for the tyres - think I saw some go on this forum recently for about £30 a piece.

I’ve been trawling the web for Tyres and found a set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4s for £723 fitted . Is this a reasonable price?

At the price these tyres go for, I'd be seriously considering Mr Wilk's advice. The noise would really annoy after paying that much.

Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is the premier non runflat performance tyre, they are quiet, have great straight line stability, wear well and are sticky as hell (stickiest in tests in the wet also).
A good test of your tyre quality is the old multi storey on a warm day, if your tyres are squealing as you turn corners on the smooth concrete you have crap rubber, its squealing because its slipping over the surface of the road.
Try ASDA Tyres, usually good prices, they deiver to a local fitter and you pay the fitter on completion of the work.

It has to be done now!
I have looked at ASDA, Tyre-spot and Kwik Fit - they all seem to be about £720 :750

My only concern is if they will all balance them properly - I go to Germany in this car and tend to do more than 70mph
