New tyre record?

Picked up the car last Friday with new tyres on, light comes on today, with a nail in the rear.

1 week, 1 f*&^%ing week.

Luckily I took out tyre insurance, otherwise I would have had to pay just over £200 ($400!).

Thats good going 1 week

I did 31/2 weeks many years ago on a ford escort mk1 (1300GT red and very rusty 1st car G reg 1969) :driving:

Two weeks (and less than 300 miles) after buying my Zed I took a short road trip and split the inside sidewall on the right rear tire (RFT) on a bridge expansion joint on the interstate. :headbang:
No new runflat available within 150 miles so 2 hours and $120.00 later, I had a el-cheapo replacement tire on so I could finish my trip.
Needless to say, I'm running NON runflats now and carry a spare.

When RFT came out I thought they would be great. But after having a set, NEVER AGAIN. What a bunch of junk. :o I was thinking about getting some kind of spare, but after thinking about it again, I really can not remember the last time I had a flat. So I decided I will just call for assistance, and forget carrying a tire with me. Sorry some of you seem not to as lucky. :(

Please help a new guy understand. Is it possible to repair run flat tires?
If so what are the "rules", type of puncture, size, location, etc.?

T.I.A.

From what I have read both here & elsewhere, if you got a puncture and repaired it straight away, without placing strain on the sidewalls then you would be fine.

However, if you have driven X no of miles, you need to get it replaced anyway.

The main issue is over liability, if a tyre shop does a patch repair and then the tyre fails - they may have some liability for that (although I don't know how that differs from a non-RFT) - also why do a £5/$10 repair when you can sell a £200/$400 tyre.

That's exactly why I also go with non RFT's and carry a spare.
