New TV and Amp

Just bought myself a new TV and Av Amp
I eventually decided on a Sony55 AF9 Oled and a Sony 1080 amp - Its the first new Tv Ive bought in a long time and Im impresses with the picture. The sound isn't bad either!

Last time I bought a new TV and Amp, they were supplied with a full instruction book = not now. It seems you only get a basic sheet to get you going then its an manual for the nitty gritty stuff

Try entering your tv model in google including ‘best settings’

Often there’s a YouTube vid of some tester tweaking every setting in 100 different menu options.

On our LG for the day setting was brilliant, nighttime screen setting so so...

Most manufacturers are moving to electronic versions of the full manual - they say it's part of 'going green', the money they save from not printing a thick manual in 97 languages is just a fortunate happenstance...

If they didn't provide the full manual as a PDF on CD/DVD you can download it e.g. your TV manual is available from https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/televisions-projectors-oled-tvs-android-/kd-55af9

That advice is appreciated- I was late into bed the night all the kit arrived.
I was punch drunk with it all - set up continued the next day as well.

The available stuff is littered with tech abbreviations and I would say it requires some knowledge.
I would hate to think how a little old lady would cope with it!

They would phone up their son called Ronk, knowing he was now an expert :poke:

you getting the requisite number of speakers to take advantage of the DolbyAtmos-specced amp?

Not yet!
I’m still 5:1 front speakers are Bi Wired but I’m going to look into the Atmos thing - I bought the Tv and Amp from Richer Sounds in Newcastle and they seem clued up.
When the novelty of this has died down I will go and have a chat with them .

I have a Panasonic Oled (the EZ952 2018 model, the year before model (950) was really bad) and you're right the picture is just fantastic. Blows me away whenever there's a shot of a cityscape at night, the detail's great.
I bought SVS Prime satellites and sub (5.1, haven't got Atmos) and they really do the TV justice, sound is top notch  . Best of luck with the speaker hunt, there's so much choice (and so much marketing BS - I'm looking at you, Bose)

My tv is old hat as I went the hd projector route and a couple of thousand watts of av kit. One of my best purchases was a transducer in the settee to do the <25hz stuff. Complements the svs sb15 sub perfectly. Can literally shake the drink out of your hand on some random explosion scene.

Now that I’ve got a modern TV I will try something like Netflix. I don’t fancy paying out an arm and a leg for Sky.

Spot on Ron, Sky subscriptions are crazy.

I use Freeview HD plus Netflix, the latter is great value at £10 per month.
