New turbo

Hi 👋
Had my 2015 z4 remapped recently . Bearing in mind my car has done only 10000 miles , the turbo started whining within 10 days of having it done.
I took the car to a turbo specialist who said in his opinion it had been over boosted , more than an m3 apparently.
The company who did the remap won't accept responsibility for it and are asking for bmw to confirm the turbo has failed and its down to the remap . Unfortunately I had the map taken off as soon as I could to avoid further damage to my car , so now I cant get Bmw to prove it . Bmw did a test on it and confirmed it had failed but will not say in writing its down to the remap , tho the service manager said in his opinion it was !

£3050 for a new turbo from Bmw was the quote !!!

HELP !!!!! 😣😣😧

Surely you can get it reconditioned for far less than that, who did the remap & why do they think the turbo’s failed?
Rob

The turbo specialist said.it had been over boosted.in their opinion. Bmw wouldnt give me an explanation on the cause , as the remap had been taken off already .
They also would not do a goodwill contribution either, even tho it has only done 10000 miles !! 😳
I dont wanna say who did it until I know they won't pay for it , but then I will post loads on the Internet and give them sooooo much s**t 🤪

So you have a remap which in almost every circumstance voids all warranties due to obvious pitfalls , then connected parts fail & you want someone else to stump up :?
Good luck with that

Why the chuff would you expect BMW to offer a goodwill gesture....???? :?

I’m amazed they didn’t escort you off the premises.

Yeah, I don't think even you could argue that one John. :)

An exchange turbo is £700-£1,200 depending on your choice of refurbisher...Autodoc amongst others offers this...

I didn’t expect a goodwill gesture actually , they said to me they would put it to bmw as the mileage was so low !

The car wasn’t under warranty anyway , I know that it would have voided one if I had it !

I’ve come on here for a bit of help , not to be told I’ve made a mistake ..... I bloody know that !

It was a BMW salesman who recommended I did it in the first place  :headbang:

Who remapped the car?

I’m still trying to get them to cough up for it so I can’t really say yet :poke:

What does everyone recommend I do please . I would really appreciate any advice on which turbo to go for etc ...... whether mine can be repaired maybe ? .......... do I take the remap company to court ? :(

They won’t accept liability mate.

You might as-well name the company so that other forum members know to avoid them.

You will get help on here but you are not very forthcoming with the details such as is your car a 18, 20 or a 28i....what map did you have done stage 1?, was the car dyno’d giving you before and after results? What BHP and torque values were you told you would have when the map was done? What is the service history?, how long have you owned the car ?, any other modifications? What if any warranties did the mapping company give you. What did the car drive like after the map etc
There are many owners of remapped E89s on here including myself that have not had any issues.
There are excellent mapping companies and individuals out there but also there are some cowboys
