Hi all

I'm looking at buying a E85 3.0i with a budget of £5-7k and just have a few questions.

How valuable is complete service history?
I ask this because there is currently a 40K car advertised by with part service history, however it is only £5500 much cheaper than anything else around atm. i'm an apprentice engineer by trade and plan on doing most of the work myself when it comes to maintenace and modifications.

Do any members know of any cars for sale that might be worth a look? (I'm based in west yorkshire and am willing to travel)

Is thereanything model specific i should look out for other than vanos hesitation and rattly and also teh rear springs breaking?
 
Roof motors have a habit of failing due to the drains not being cleared regularly, if the service history was patchy I wouldn't discount it but look at the condition of the car to get a feel for how it's been looked after.

40,000 miles, what year is the car James?

Not the be all and end all if it's an older car and you're happy the car tallies with the mileage... If it was a rough sounding car that's obviously had a hard life, I'd be dubious with a mere 40000 miles on it.

As Smartbear has said, roof drains are one to watch along with rear springs going. There's a guide on the E85 section as to what to look for.

Keep an eye out on the For Sale section on here to see what comes up. With spring around the corner some more may be coming out of hibernation soon...

They are fantastic cars. Surprisingly practical, frugal and fun to drive!

My advice would be to remain patient - there are plenty for sale at your price point and you may get lucky with a well cared for example on the forum.

Read through the Buying guide located at the start of the E85/E86 section of the forum and you'll get lots of advice on what to look for and check.

40k could have once been 140k with very little service history! Be patient. There's lots of them out there for sale!
