New to the group but after some advice

Hi everyone!
Bought my toy (09 plate E89 s23) end of August, I love the car to pieces, I had talked for a few years about getting one and finally took the plunge this year! it’s in brilliant condition (for its age) but there are just a couple of niggles which I want to sort!
1- I get very bad brake fade when ‘pushing on’! I’m looking at getting upgraded brakes on the front end, I was looking at grooved and drilled discs with a carbon coating but I’ve been told they can be noisy when driving normally! Anyone had any experience of this or even recommend a brand to check out?

2- the keyless entry/start works fine all round but the keyless lock on the drivers door doesn’t work, any ideas for this? Is it a common problem?

Look forward to any answers or replies!

The brake fade seems strange on the E89 with 300mm discs on the road...obviously everyone drives differently, anecdotally there is little evidence to suggest that brake fade is an issue on the E89s

I did have 300mm discs and upgraded to 330mm with no perceived improvements

Others have gone for even more radical 6 pot solutions and have noted little in street based performance..

The 23i is one of the slower E89s albeit with a heavier lump than the 4 potters so a bit perplexed..maybe I just don’t use the brakes or am a bit slow..

Drilling / grooving discs does nothing to improve brake fade...don’t know about coatings but intuitively feel they will wear off with use..

Maybe you have duff / incorrect pads?

Brake fade is more likely to be due to old fluid that needs replacing.
Either that or you have a sticky calipers which is making the disc hot. That would be easy to test for by driving gently then seeing if one brake disc is particularly hot.
My guess would be the fluid though.

I wouldn't say you were slow Peter. I enjoyed chasing you on that 1st leg on saturday :driving:

From your first post & as a ex 23i E89 owner id be inclined to think you have bought the wrong car op
If you did decide to spend big on brake upgrade i doubt you would get it safely into a bend at speeds you would be able to test them

Hi and welcome to the forum.

Now let's see your car!

You might say that, I might think that, I couldn’t possibly comment.. :driving:

Hi and welcome,
I for one love it, you cant beat space grey with coral red leather, but that's just my opinion :D

I am thinking of the BMW performance brakes from the E90. Perhaps look into these if new brake fluid has been looked into

Hi I also have a 2009 in the same colour combo and must agree with others it makes a great looking car. Re you question of brakes. I did a brake overhaul about 3 years ago New discs (OEM)/ refurbished and painted callipers/ New pads/ brake fluid, and the one that I think gave a better braking response S/Steel braided hoses. Not a big cost but one I think worth it.

Just fit Ferodo DS2500 pads, you don't need bigger discs or any fancy grooves, holes etc, they just reduce the friction surface and are completely unnecessary on any car not used on a track, drilled can also crack if used heavily.
Any honest indy dealer will tell you this.
