New to the forum and possible Z4 ownership

Hi,

I have popped over from BMWLAND to say hello! I currently drive a manual E46 330ci and am looking to possibly change to a Z4 3.0 Auto or SMG. Value would be up to 7k depending on what I sell/trade in my car for. I have a few questions if you guys don't mind helping me out..

Am I right in my thinking that the E85 shares wheel and tyre sizes, staggered set up etc with the E46? Tyre sizes on my car are 225/40/18 and rear 255/35/18, my winter set is 225/45/17 all round..

Did all Z4's come with runflats as standard? Is the general consensus to ditch them for standard tyres as it is with the E90's E60's etc?

The SMG would suit me perfectly as I prefer manual but my wife only drives Auto, are the SMG boxes reliable enough?

Can you disable the passenger airbag via a switch/key for the use of a childs car seat?

I have other questions but my baby boy woke me up early so my brain isn't working properly just now!
Any advice on the above or with anything you think of would be much appreciated.

Thanks in advance

D

Hello and welcome

Yes the wheels are the same in size and offset, for example MV2's were fitted to both models. RFT's were fitted as standard and beware that some people have bought cars with mixed tyres so check them.

I believe the auto is better, but only from the information posted on here. Use the search feature, there is a buyers guide placed at the footer of Wondermike, most of what you need is there.

Good luck

Welcome to the forum

Only heard of one issue on SMG, so figure they must be fairly reliable. Good luck, hope you find a good one

hya DAT , on the auto /SMG debate . i left my auto with my indy a couple of weeks ago & he took the car out after fitting new bushes & stated that the box change on the paddles was hard to differentiate from SMG ?
not ever tried one so i can't comment but he was mighty impressed

Thanks for the welcome guys!

I am not overly worried about the SMG box, spec and condition will be more important and I will happily drive an auto, there seems to be more Auto's on the market.

Just preparing my 330 for sale and all going well I will be looking for a Z4 soon..
