New to me E85 30si manual

Hi all. I thought I had sworn off BMWs - I’ve had a 2005 X3, 2018 X3, and in between a 328i GT X drive. A major problem with them is the design and execution of the front drive shaft - the splines wear on the shaft and in the transfer case. It requires rebuilding or replacing the t-case, and then it will happen again. Plus the electric power steering clunk.

Then I drove a friend’s 2007 Z4 30i roadster 6 speed manual, and it was like a drug. Even with it having 315,000 miles. That is not a typo. I could have bought it. It drives great but it is long in the tooth. So I picked up a 2006 30si manual shift with 56,000 miles. The gearbox and clutch felt much better than my friend’s car. It does have the ‘sport’ stuff - suspension, seats, 18” wheels, and the mostly gratuitous Sport button on the console. I really didn’t want 18” wheels but choices are limited and life is short. We’ll see how it works out. The tires are about 15 years old so I am putting new Continental run flats on it. I discussed this in the wheels and tyres sub-forum.

When I get it home I’m going to have to dig into it and see if it has the Carver stereo. I used to live near Bob Carver’s former facility and have Carver stereo equipment at home.

Hi and welcome to the forum Tommy.

The 3.0Si is a fantastic engine and as you'll know from your friend's car can easily cope with monster miles. If US cars are the same as UK ones the smallest wheels that will clear the front brakes would be 17s, so maybe 18s aren't so bad.

Don't forget we like to see photos!
