Just picked up a 07, Z4, 3.0Si. Beautiful car, black paint and soft top. Black and red interior, Si model, 6 spd auto (for the wife), paddle shifters, Nav, sport mode. Really well maintained, the interior looks new. Paint is excellent.

Its rather interesting for me as in 04 I got very close to picking up a 330. I saw the ad on TV, 3 series for $30k. OK sounds good, til you look at the 330 next to it. Once I had it optioned the way I wanted it I hit $40k. That was $10k too much for me. And I decided it was not the right time to own a BMW. BUT it was always on my mind.

Fast forward to today. We decided to "trade in" my leased Jeep. I negotiated a really good lease, 15K a yr so the residual value would be low. I only put 11k on it in 3 yrs.

Wifey initially wanted a 4 seater. I looked at a 02 Camaro convertible. It was in good shape with only 82k miles on it. Wifey did not like it at all. So decided to look at the 05 and later Mustangs. But we did not find anything we liked. I looked at a 3 series with 140K miles on it and saw how "new" looking the interior was. Mentioned it to my wife, that the BMW's are holding up a lot better. She jumped on the idea of the BMW and liked the Z4. Wifey is from Serbia and to her a BMW is the way to go. Better than a Benz for her. I could not argue with a Z4.

Looked at a few and then looked at the one we got last, it was more money than we wanted to spend but it was in such great condition and beautiful wifey did not care. She said get it. Dealer was awsome, they had just reduced the price to $17k and gave me $3500 trade in on the Jeep. Everything lined up and it was probably the easiest car transaction I have ever had. The Z4 drives great....as expected. I am very impressed that it is always in the right gear, I never have to kick it down as its cruising along at 2K where it should be. I have had too many cars that were always lugging along in to low a gear. The Z4 is perfect. I am a 43 yr old gear head and owned a 79 Camaro, a 82 Rx7, a 90 Firebird Formula 350 and currently own a 71 Firebird with a 383 chevy roller motor. The Z4 is by far the most sorted out finely tuned car I have ever owned.

Sorry for the long intro but I am just so impressed with the Z and am glad I finally have my BMW.

Hey thank you. I also realise there are a lot of members from the other side of the pond. I was in London in May 2010, had to see the tourist stuff but was really there for a pub crawl. Favorite was Ye Olde Cheshire Cheese. Wifey hated it, she felt like ghosts were watching us. i loved it. Beer was great. They had ice cold Budweiser where ever we went.......OK I am kidding. What was really interesting was the Samuel Smiths hand pumped at 2 pounds. I could not believe in London I could get a beer for $3 US dollars. Loved it and had a blast.

The other thing that stands out still was riding the subway and I had my 9 month old with me, she was dressed in pink. There was an older couple across from us and they asked me a question. They were white people and I could not understand them. The only word I heard was boy....I think, So I pointed to her pink clothes and they were in agreement that she was a girl. They got off at the next stop and were pleasant when saying good bye. It was the funniest thing I had no idea what they were saying. They were not from another country they were from the UK. But I could no undertand the accent. I did a lot of beer drinking at a lot of pubs and that was the only time I did not understand someone. I wish I had asked where they were from.

Welcome

I had a black 3.0Si auto with red leather until recently - fantastic car, great colour combo, beautiful when cleaned and polished and the transmission is sublime. Pulls like a train, right ? :driving:

Don't worry about not understanding people in London - I have lived in England for over 18 years and me and the locals still regularly fail to understand each other. Fortunately there are a lot of drunk Scots in London so they just smile politely at me and move on, happy not to have been assaulted I assume

It definatly has some power. Pulls good, I have a 71 Firebird with a SBC 383 roller motor, its faster but not a daily driver, no A/C etc. Not something you drive in the summer when its 120 F. The Z is absolutely gorgeous. Inside and out. Great driver, one of the nicer car I have had to date.

It was only the people on the subway that one time that I could not understand. I should have asked them where they were from in the U.K. I was not expecting it. I lived in Hong Kong and everyone I met from the UK spoke English that was understandable. You get it in the US too, talk to someone from the back woods of Mississippi and you may struggle. Is why I wonder where they were from. London was great, I was surprised how friendly the people were. You would not find people that friendly in NYC. IMO. The pub scene was great. So much history. The weather was even nice. Having lived in Seattle I know crappy weather.
