Hello All. I've been reading posts with great appreciation of the effort of the members. Very impressive. My mum has bought a 2.0Z4 coupe. It has not been looked after but the dealer hid a lot of issues, i'll let her off.

So far i've

Replaced Oil Filter Housing and Oil Cooler Gaskets as was seeping oil
Full Service (Oil Filter was in around 100 peices how it didnt suck up a peice of the paper filter i have no idea)
Coolant change
Replaced Variable Valve Timing Solenoid (Vanos i think you call it in BMW World)
Changed both rear wishbone bushes as they were absolutely destroyed. (You could shake them with your hand!)
Replaced thermostat

Jobs still to do:
Replace rocker cover gasket
Fix heater
fix missing mirrors (i've read the hundreds of posts on the mirror thread. Shame on BMW for not addressing this. Should be on watchdog).

So the only issue that i need help with is the heater issue. I've changed the coolant and bled the system and changed thermostat, but only get lukewarm air. I believe it has the mechanical water pump, so manually bled it form the two bleed screws and burped the whole system. I've flushed the matrix and it flows fine. I've checked and both matrix pipes seem to get hot, more so when on higher revs. It appears that there is an auxiliary electric water pump to push water through the matrix, it seems to vibrate a tad when bleeding so would appear it is spinning. What i didn't do which i should have when i was looking at it last would be to remove the outlet pipe and see if coolant is being pumped sufficiently. Even when really pushing the revs up and holding them the flow and return from the matrix gets quite hot but not scalding like the radiator top hose. It gets warmer in the car when i put the climate control to max heat or if i turn the temperature control to "red" instead of a temperature. The air temp coming from the vents just doesn't seem to get really hot, my own car i put it to "high" on the climate and i cant keep the back of my hand on the vent for too long as it gets too hot.

Whats strange is when i turn the aircon off the air does seem to get warmer (but current outside temperature is deceiving so not sure if its being heated by the car or not), so appears that the climate is permanently engaging the air-conditioning system the radiator fans fire up and stay on when i press the aircon button. My perception of Climate Control was that you set it to typically 22oC auto fan auto recirc aircon enabled and it decides when to turn it on and off to keep the car at the desired temperature?

Has anyone else experienced this issue could it be the auxiliary pump or am i barking up the wrong tree ?

Welcome. It sounds as if you are more than familiar with the greasy bits.

I am sure someone will be able to help you soon.
