New to Forum - Z4 M Coupe - CSL Wheels

Hi All,

I'm new to the forum and I want to get some original CSL wheels for the Z4MC.

I've been looking on loads of websites and various forums but cant find the answer to the following questions (any help would be much appreciated):-

1) How come there are various width front and rear options on the original BMW CSL wheels? Surely BMW/BBS only made one size for the M3 CSL? What is the actually M3 CSL production dims and are these the best fit for the Z4MC?

2) If I'm buying from Ebay / piston heads - how can the seller prove I'm getting the real thing (in the absence of a recipt from BMW)? Are they serialised or come with some form of certificates etc?

3) What is the difference between the M3 CS 19s and the M3 CSL wheels - is it just that the CSL wheels are lighter?

Lastly, I havent called my dealer for a quote yet but surely the CSL wheels are at least £1,400 CLP for the set? I got quoted £340 + VAT for 1 ZM4C 18 wheel (no tyre) a while back.

1) There aren't various sizes and widths - there's only one fitment for authentic CSLs - 19" wheels 8.5"F/9"R. CS wheels are 19" as well, 8"F/9"R. Anything else is a replica.
2) There's a OEM part number stamped into the wheel
3) See #1 - the Competition wheels are the same construction and design, the fronts are .5" narrower. The sole difference.

Can't speak to prices in the UK. I bought my CSLs on eBay.uk for $3600USD with new Pirelli P-Zeros.
 
If I remember correctly, very few dealers will supply them to anyone without a CSL part number.

I bought mine from a forum member.

EPBROWN - I appreciate the detailed answers, I have seen people talking about getting 265 or 275s on the rear, so these must be fake then if you're saying they only ever made the 1 size rear wheel? Is the real McCoy rear 275?

You're mistaking the tyre sizes for wheel sizes. There are many variations of tyre size that will fit on the CSL wheels which only come in the one size that epbrown has stated. There are threads on here discussing the various combinations that can be used.

BMW dealers will not sell you CSL wheels without a CSL chassis number and probably proof of ownership as well. If you get lucky and manage to find one that will sell you a set you should be able to get the price discounted to around £1100.

Try Simpsons Motorsport, thats where I bought mine for £1222 plus about £40 delivery. These are genuine CSL's.
Depending on tyre sizes and brand you could be anywhere between £600-£900 on top.

Thanks for clarifying DGM and for the link - looks like a good site for a potential purchase!

Sytner Sunningdale just quoted me £255.32 + VAT (fronts) and £272.34 + VAT (rears). He said I needed to sign a disclaimer saying they were going on a M3 CSL (he wasnt sure why BMW only want them on the CSL though) and also needed a chasis number. No proof of ownership required.

mac_12345, that looks a pretty reasonable price to me. He should be able to get you a chassis number should he not, although he may not like doing so.

The advantage of getting them from the dealer I suppose is no delivery charges, plus you can inspect them as you pay. Mail order is great until something has to be returned.
 
I get mine without the chassis number nowadays. Fortunately I work on CSL's all the time and I've bought so many sets using various chassis numbers they just gave up asking!
 
Yeah I might just ask him to supply a chasis number, if it becomes a hassel then I think that Simpson motorsport link kindly provided earlier will do the trick.

Another question - it looks like Senwar / EPBROWN have had the wagons lowered too? Will it sit up a little higher off the arches if you put 19s on it?

I don't know about Senwar, but I'm still at stock ride height, with no plans to change; I think the car looks fine as is. :)

I don't know about Senwar, but I'm still at stock ride height, with no plans to change; I think the car looks fine as is. :)

I'm 100% sure his is standard suspension too.
 
Hi Guys,

Looks like the conversation has gone downhill since I last logged on. That said tight is good!

Anyway, I have now ordered a set of original CSL wheels - hopefully arrive on WED, next decision - tyres. Looks like either PS2s or Assyimetrics (later being the cheaper option). I mostly do motorway driving and no track days.

What sizes and general thoughts on this one? Ideally the lower profile the better I guess..

If you ordered them from Simpsons I just spent half the morning wrapping them in extra bubblewrap and cardboard before reboxing them! :D
