hello all,

not an owner, just created an account. I'm looking into an E85 for my next car and wondering what you guys can tell me about it. I always loved the body style. Currently I drive a MINI. Wondering if there are any major differences in the facelift (all i noticed were taillights) and if there are any models I should avoid (ie: pre-facelift perhaps?) Ideally I'd like a 6 speed facelifted 3.0i or si convertible and obviously the coupe if I can actually find one for a good price. Love to hear any input.

Thanks,

Tyler

Hi

Yes the facelift does look somewhat fresher, with clear headlights and rear LED lights. There are a few more cosmetic changes, but nothing as major.

The other noticeable change is the engine - a few more ponies under the lonnnnng bonnet

The roof motor is also a bit better protected against water ingress in the facelift model. Whatever you do - cost in a BMW Warranty as well to the cost of the car, you will need one. Browsing the forums should give you an indication of how "reliable" these cars are!!!

Welcome to the forum. If you can stretch, go for a facelift 3.0si Sport. Check the history for any HVA issues, which can trouble the facelift cars. If it's had the issue fixed you have a winner. Not all cars suffered HVA issues but a telltale sign is a rattle sound from the engine.

Don't buy a coupe

yes dont buy a coupe ! you wouldnt want to stand out from the hordes would you ! :fuelfire: but hope you find the z you are looking for great cars ! even the ragtops ive heard !

thanks for the input guys. Any reason to stay away from the coupe? in my opinion its one of BMWs nicest body styles. I almost prefer it to my friends Valencia Orange 1 Series M

The coupe doesn't let you out the roof down. It's the best part of Z4 ownership :)

Roadster and the coupe owners on here like to have abit of banter, take no notice and just buy the roadster :P its the true sports car experience :fuelfire:

I have the face lift 3.0si roadster and love it. I have to agree the coupe does look nicer in my opinion, but you cant beat having the roof down on a sunny day.Just have to way up what you want. If power is what you are after spend a bit more and get the M, sometimes i wish i did.

I work at a dealership which sells pre owned luxury cars, so hopefully one will come in that I can take for a spin. I've driven a e93 328 and m3 convertible as well as a ferrari 360 spider. I really love the experience but i prefer the coupe just because its way more uncommon and sporty. Ive probably only seen 3 coupes in my life. Can someone link me to a good problems thread/ what sort of issues are common?

Hav only truly fixed if compete head assembly has been replaced. BMW starting replacing only the HVAs which is hit and miss.

Rear spring only other real issue I can think of on coupe other than rusty tailgate.
