Hi,I.m new here and hope to become a member, I have been offered a 53 plate Z4 3.0 auto roadster, never owned one before, so hope you guys can give me some pointers/info.
It has nearly full history, recently had front suspension bushes and very a expensive airbag control unit at Sytners High Wycombe
it's done 82000, 3 owners. new tyres on the front, but the rears are nearing the limit. Alloys are in OK condition.
The drivers door has a rattle when you close it and I think the washer bottle has a leak.
The body work is really clean, with just a few tiny marks, the engine sounds lovely, can't see any leaks
It's dark blue with cream leather interior, has power seats, rear park sensors, factory wind deflector, auto lights/wipers, folding mirrors,
auto dim rear view mirror, wood effect dash, business stereo ?? headlamp washers and I think xenon lights.
Not sure how many of these were options or standard though.

Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks, John

Hi and welcome to the forum
Take a look at AlanJ's pre purchase checks - http://www.z4-forum.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=2&t=21281#p300458
Edit - put the address up incorrectly should be able to click on it now

Hi, I found the link, very informative thank you.
I had to edit my 1st post, as the photos had disappeared, but now sorted again.
Well, I know have the car at home on a trial basis, it's a friend of mine who owns it and he's more than happy for me to trial it.
I found that the washer bottle was just empty, now working as it should and all the other bits work fine.
One thing I did find strange though was when on the Alanj check list, he points you to a link that allows you check your cars original spec sheet from BMW.
When I entered the reg and/or vin number, it said it didn't recognize them, although all the details with the car...old MOT's, service book and receipts from it's life, all
show this vin and reg number.
The only thing that did show up, is it had a reg plate change, but the original plate was retained.
So back to my 1st post..would the listed items be standard or add on's
Thanks for any comments.

Hi John,

Welcome. Follow this link http://www.bmwarchive.org/vin/bmw-vin-decoder.html and add the last 7 digits of the vin number. (The plate change shouldn't matter).
This should give you the engine and the original spec of the car (I have Skelters to thank for this link)

Thanks Marlon, that worked a treat, it has quite a list of factory add on's
He was asking £4995 but said I can have it for £4500 (very good friend)
Looking at other cars for sale, I'm happy with that price :D

Hi have you checked that the headlight washers work. They should work every 5th press of the washer stalk i think. The reason i ask is when i first got my wifes Z4 it had an empty washer reservoir but on filling it up it didn't leak then a few days later it would be empty again.
What had happened was the seal on the passenger side head light water had gone ( this is apparently quite common as it the winter as the washer fluid freezes if not at the right concentration and wrecks the seal). When the washer is activated it just poured fluid down the inside of the bumper on to the drive. This the sets up a syphon and drains the reservoir.
You refill the reservoir and the water doesn't leak out until head light washer is activated again.
Hope this helps Rich

Thanks for the warm welcome, I will have a play with the washers Rich61.
But now the sun has finally come out, we are just off for a spin...topless
I will have to cover my bald head though, the joys of getting old 8)
