Of course manufacturers have to cut corners. If they didn't they'd end up with something like a Veyron, or a Zonda! Many things have to be taken into account when designing a car of a mainstream manufacturer and one of the most important is cost i would think.

I bet they could have designed an exhaust that produces even more power, with an even better sound, with electronic flaps for extra growliness when you feel like it and helmoltz chambers to reduce drone to nothing. They could. But try telling the bean counters to grant a few million quid for R&D for a pair of mufflers!

Yes, but are the aftermarket people gonna put any more than the OEM's into the exhausts? No.

Sorry to say it, but even with the compromise of an OEM exhaust, I bet they still make a better overall package than aftermarkets...

They generally must otherwise no one would ever buy an OEM exhaust after failure.

but of the ones I've heard, some sound MUCH better than stock (note: deeper - not raspy). If anything, our stock sound is quite soft (for those aged 70 and under that is). It is a sports car after all.

Thing is, I prefer the raspier sounds vs the deeper ones.

A TVR Speed Six engine at full chat is more crackly and raspy than boomy and deep.

Everyone is different of course, so you go for what you like

Glad after market people do exist, but I just worry how much people try tell themselves they are automagically better than OEM because they cost alot. OEM don't add profit margin on their cost like an aftermarket manufacturer will. That is the bulk of the cost right there.

Just because a company is not the size of a major car manufacturer does not mean they are not competent enough to design and produce a decent product. Just a £2,500 titanium exhaust isn't cheap.

A group by even at £1,750 each is gonna be steep for a product you probably can't return or trial before buying.

Just I'm surprised that some people can justify spending that kinda cash so blind to what they are getting!

There is the weight saving I guess but in a 1425kg car (or thereabouts) it ain't gonna add up to diddly squat in terms of performance every day unless you are a real track demon. The stock system is also bloody durable too.

My big beef with the aftermarket exhausts for the M is that IMO they all sound really, REALLY shite. I think they completely ruin the stock sound and replace a nice metallic rasp with something which wouldn't be out of place in a KFC car park at midnight.

It is just my view though. Wouldn't do if we all liked the same thing. The nicest sound I've heard from the aftermarket bunch is the Schnitzer version but I don't like the tailpipe design. I think this is actually manufactured by Remus exhaust is it not ?

There's considerable weight savings actually. And when combined with other get-the-weight-off mods (seats, wheels etc) it makes a difference to more than just 'track demons'. Also, I don't know what places you frequent that you get to hear all the different aftermarket exhausts IN PERSON, but of the ones I've heard, some sound MUCH better than stock (note: deeper - not raspy). Second I stated it was my opinion on the sound not a fact and I disagree with you completely about the sound of the aftermarket exhausts. They ruin the M-power sound. It's that bass "bark" sound I loathe. The reason I think the Remus/ACS sound is good is because it is more of an amplification of stock rather than a whole new sound

I knew you could change tail-pipe design on the ACS but last time
I checked you couldn't keep the OEM style quad round pipes.

Bigdog is absolutely right. Switching to an aftermarket exhaust system that that differs only in weight and the material that is was made from is of doubtful value for the 2.5K cost. If you look around, there are lots of aftermarket mods that cost much and do little other than enrich the the vendors. But they sound so cool! Buy some good tires and brakes with the same money. You will enjoy having done so more than purchasing an exotic exhaust system.

A titanium exhaust makes sense, but I'd be going for lighter wheels, monoblock lightweight calipers and maybe a carbon roof (coupe) first, rather than lightening a part that sits so low down on the car and doesn't spin

Just to let you know.
The weight of the tit mufflers is 3,x kg compared to 9,x kg for the stock muffler (per piece)
The sound is really nice, it's always difficult to say from a video especialy with the poor speakers.
Hear, feel and see it in person and you'll be impressed I swear.

KKS gained 5hp on top and didn't loose torque with the titanium muffler too.

The red plates are for dealers that have to move many cars. They are switchable plates.

Has anyone tried the OEM exhaust with a different centre section out of interest? Maybe that would give a bit more noise without loosing the OEM rasp and probably do about for £250?

I can confirm the ACS (Remus Sportsauspuff :lol: ) are just like the OEM just turned up to 11. Its comfortable on long runs with no excess noise/ booming. Bear in mind this is only the backboxes. ACS did tell me that the full system would be hard on the ears.
