New style of E85 roof motor?

I purchased a 2003 3.0i from a lady who indicated that the roof motor had been changed a couple years ago with a new type of motor from BMW that isn't susceptible to water damaged and failure.
She wasn't totally on the ball with several things about the car, which makes me wonder if she was accurate.
Does this sound right? Did BMW bring out a better motor for the E85 roof?

All e85 roof motors are susceptible to water damage, she must have been fed some duff info :o

Facelift cars had the motor in a ‘protected’ bag but it really only helps against indirect ingress. The basic design of the motor sat in a plastic bucket has not changed and is therefore just as susceptible as the previous iteration if the drainage holes get gunked up. Pull the bungs out and check water drains out quickly with the roof down. A very simple way to make sure you stay free of problems.

When i had the motor relocated on my 3.0si it looked like the Dead Sea scrolls when they fished it out! :roll:

Why cant they fit one way valves to areas like these to let water drain away if it starts to pool.
Im sure it wouldn't be difficult, it could be a similar valve to the valves on snorkels.

That would work if it was just nice clean water, in fact if you look closely at the design of the bung is almost just that. The problem is all the debris like leaves, dust and crap that gets in there and forms a sludge around the drainage point.

Maybe a bilge pump is needed instead :lol:
 
After reviewing allot of posts, I took the 5 mins required and pulled the drain plugs out from underneath. Wells were dry and free of debris. No need to remove the rear wheels.
