New Specs

Is it only me who's had bother with specs from spec savers?

I wear vari-locals and never once has specsavers got them right first time. They are really in the last chance saloon this time.
They always get them right eventually - eventually being the key word.

I’m on my 3rd pair of vari’s from Vision Express since May, so no, not just you they all seem to be able to f**k up equally.

Issue has been the measurements of where your eye “rests” 3 different opticians and a 7mm swing in measurements. Hopefully the latest set that arrived yesterday will be good

I've used Specsavers for the past few years Ron, I have photochromatic rimless varifocals and they have been fine. They did mess up one year though which was comical, again rimless and they had misaligned the holes holding the arms to the lens so the glasses sat at a 45 degree tilt  They got it better second attempt.

A friend has just had their prescription varifocals from Asda opticians at a fraction of the cost and been impressed with them so might try Asda next.

Tim.

My latest pair collected today had the vertical settings out by approx 4mm (He said)
The fella had written 29.5 instead of 24.5 ( He said)

Can’t even get the excuses to add up properly :headbang:

I think i will try an independent optician next time - they've had too many second chances

Can't understand how they can't build them to spec?

You’re back :tumbleweed:
I was actually planning to book an eye test this week.................
Right up to the point when Vall asked how much I'd enjoy them resting that heavy frame on my broken nose.

The new kit isn’t like that any more I’m pleased to say.

However, If you wear vari-vocals I wait until your hooter and it’s swelling has settled!

Yup I did think it had changed but didn't want to inadvertently cripple the optician so thought I'd wait a while.
Good point on the swelling too.
Hopefully they can adjust for the slight offset to the left as well. :)

The optical Centres seem to be critical on these vari-focals. I’ve used them for many years now and rarely have they got them right.
Several years ago, Specsavers had an electronic bit of kit to do the measuring but I haven’t noticed any of them laying around in the store!

I hope the hooter recovers its symmetry asap

I’ve tried varifocals a couple of times over the the years, just can’t get on with them at all. I find my head weirdly rotating to focus on an object or picture and then only seeing a small fraction in focus. I can’t imagine driving in them.

I stick with bifocals, not ideal but at least I can see where I’m going.

I had that issue for a couple of days when I first bought some, but it soon went away.
Funnily enough, the only thing they annoy me for is roof motor relocations. Can't get my head at the right angle in the boot to be able to focus!

I've had problems with Specsavers, David Cudlow and others.

Try Costco opticians, the last three pairs we've bought have been spot on and great value too for branded frames / lenses. Instantly felt right and superb vision.

They always had great reviews, but I'd been reluctant to go until then. Wish I went earlier, much earlier.

My wife had that same problem with her last pair of specs. They had fitted a very basic vari focal lens - the problem was resolved with the best quality product.

I suspect the wider corridors of correction gives them more tolerance of the optical centres ?

I’ve used varifocals for many years now and wouldn’t consider anything else - when they are fitted/measured correctly it’s the nearest you can get to proper vision.

Only when they are properly fitted!!!! 👁️ 👁️

I finally succumbed to wearing specs a few years ago. Spec savers were expensive and rubbish IMO. I have vari-focals too (although going to change as don't like them).
One of my lenses has a sharp piece of plastic sticking out of the frame where they didn't cut it right and after a while the lenses have gone 'foggy' as the plastic is so crap cleaning them has scratched the surfaces. I got a pair of sunglasses with the same lenses; they don't sit straight, as the whole frame is slightly buckled. All like it from new.

I'm going to use Boots (the chemist!) next time.

There’s a lens and frames only outlet opened close to me - so once I verify the new prescription is ok, I will have my spares and sunglasses reglazed

Ps. -Specsavers have just sent me a “How did we do?” Survey! Should I complete it? They were rubbish but the fella I dealt with was a decent chap and I don’t want to drop him in the poo!

Ronk and anyone else in the Gateshead area. I have been using these for about 20 years now and never found any better or cheaper.

Take along your prescription and they will fit you up with a new pair just as cheap as Select Specs and cheaper than Specsavers and the like with impeccable service.

My wife took her vari focal glasses along as she had broke the frame. The fitted the lenses to a new frame, took my Rayban sunglasses off me and gave them a good going over while we waited all for £40. Same pair in the Metro Centre were £125

Many opticians send their customers glasses to this place for repairs and fitting lenses.

Many thanks - Ive copied their details into my address book for future ref.

Im sure they will beat the £300 I've just paid Specsavers for my new specs.
I reckon my first task is to have my sunglasses reglazed as the prescriptiom is now outdated. I have a pair in both cars so it would be expensive
as S Savers don't reglaze - its a whole new pair from them.

Once I get the new specs from them it will prove the prescription.

They will sort your sunglasses out also
