New soon to be E89 Z4 owner

Thought I would drop in an say hi!

I have just placed a deposit on a DSB Z4 but I cannot take delivery of it as of yet as I am in Shanghai working right now!

Story behind the purchase is back in July I bought a Pearl White Honda S2000 and just before I took delivery of it someone broke into the forecourt and stole parts off it resulting is £8k worth of parts gone and subsequently end up being a write off.

The new Z4 were always lingering at the back of my mind and for the extra bit of money I felt that I would get a hell of a lot more car but perhaps a less refined drive of the S2000 (I've owned one before) but I never track or rag any of my cars so decided to invest in a Z4 which has a more 'GT' feel to it

The only information which I struggled to find is before I pay off the remaining and take ownership, what are the things should I check for on the car? This has the 19" 296 alloys and I've heard stories of them cracking. Should I check this and how would I be able to tell?

Good choice. I have come from an 08 civic type r looking for a z4 coupe and my brother has an 07 s2000. Although the s2000 is a fantastic car with bags of character and an absolutely amazing engine I do think the z4 is the better allrounder. Both cars drive completely differently and offer a different package. S2000 is always on the edge and a very frantic drive whereas as you saud the z4 is much more of a gt car but a dream to drive for different reasons. Either way both great cars and either one would have been a good choice.

I've often felt that the Z4 is a "GT" type car but have never said as much on here. Interesting that others agree.
Sorry I can't comment on DSB - I'm biased!

I agree on the GT comment. I find the ride locally in Manchester very bumpy, with small potholes sending a loud bang through the car. However, on a run, on the motorway and some nice A/B roads, the car feels like it can eat miles and is very comfy.
 
I had an S2000 and then decided I wanted another and they were great to blast around A roads but then moved onto a 350Z which had a very GT feel to it but it was boring to drive by comparison.

I definitely do feel the E89 has a very GT feel about it without losing that 'roadster' about it

Now does anyone know about the 296 V-spoke alloys and the likelyhood of there being any damages to the car that I am taking ownership. Having only gone by description and not seen it in the flesh I do want to be able to turn up and do the necessary checks so I dont get any nasty surprises

Oh.. 296... the story of my life. They're a nightmare if you drive the car on anything but good roads. Get the car up on a ramp and have each wheel inspected for hairline cracks on the inner rim of each wheel. More likely on the back, but check them all. My rears went within months!!
