New Shocks and Cracked Alloys again

Ok, so my car finally got fixed yesterday, nearly 3 weeks after the shock absorbers went at the front. And to be sure I asked them to check the alloys and lo and behold, the rears were cracked!! As I have extended warranty, alloys are not covered but BMW have always agreed to replace them if within tolerance, which they were. But this time they have said it will be the last time they replace them, as they have now changed 12.

So there we have it......when my run flats wear down, I am going for normal tyres,,..

Second issue is, a few of you can remember me having my wheels re done into a grey powder coats ....and now I have these new wheels to the rear, I have the following problem...

To be honest I think I now like the original colour......what do you think??

I prefer the grey :) but its all down to personal taste.

I would definatly ditch the runflats soon though it should help with your cracking problem.

I like the grey also.

On another note. Sorry sir you cant have any more wheels because you have had 12 already?!?! Answer well you have had 12 chances to get it right dont let me down again and give an inferior poor quality product???

OEM. That is shocking that they have had to change 12 wheels, clearly the set up is not fit for purpose. I don't understand what was wrong with just using normal tyres, why do manufacturers have to fit run flats these days, surely they can accommodate a space saver in the design somewhere.

I drove over a horrible pot hole today, only at 20mph but the loud bang couldn't have been good for the alloys. I'm worried its only a matter of time before they crack.

On the way home there was a a part of the road which was seemed to have caved in a bit causing a (blind) dip.... and I was accelerating. The back completely slammed down hard and I'm worried it may have done damage to the shocks/suspension :( Its driving fine but the state of the roads in Manchester are appalling :x

Lets face it, UK roads aren't designed for 19 inch wheel.
You need more of a buffer zone between car and pot holes.
I blew out two 17 inch non rft's, don't know what would have happened if they had been 19 inch wheels.

well its good that they replaced them for you

like i said when you first had the fronts done, i prefer them in the original silver as the grey ones just look like dirty alloys rather than grey ones :D

Oh I like the darker wheels, looks unusual

wheels are just bad, surprised you haven't gone down the non run flat route already

Can you believe this....I asked yesterday if they are covered for 12 months warranty now and was told no, as they have been replaced as a goodwill gesture they do not come with any warranty.....nice.

You Guys who have ditched the run flats, what kind of emergency repairs do you carry (canister or compressor) and, if used, have these proved effective?

I carry a 12v compressor and a can of holts tyre weld. Never had to use it but I've also got AA cover in the event it doesn't work.

Prefer the silver wheels - lovely looking Zed.

Can't believe you're on 12 replacements - how old is the Zed?

'Fit for purpose' comes to mind.

:driving:
