new s/c unit now installed... and dyno numbers :-)

hi guys, been off the ball recently as im in and out of hospital at the mo with a sick little one :-( Not even born and not doing well :-( siggghhh..... come on little one......

anyhow the car is doing better now and getting ready for its new heart :-) ive covered the underside of the charger with a rag, i will take the car back to simpson early early morning next week to get my new unit on the car, car still drives fine, looking forward to finally getting these issues sorted......

anyhow, after much deliberation it seems my s/c was always defective, ess reckon for the seal to fail at such low mileage must have been a faulty unit, this is the first unit ess has had to replace the vortech unit for a faulty seal, so i guess my bad luck just continues.

anhow while its laid up i replaced the ugly Ess rubber top house with a black goodridge material/ internal braid/ fire proof the whole nine yards, it looks so much better.....

while im at simpson i will ask them to double check my oil cooler line and finally give the car a proper bill of health, ill try and get a sneaky dyno session in as well :-)

other than that...... this thing should be in full working order within a week, once my boys born (will be induced friday) and i know im ok to leave him for a day, ill get this sorted and give you all a proper review!! thanks for being patient :-)

cheers guys:-) As soon as i know all i well ill be straight back to this to get some proper updates.......

my new unit arrived today at simpson :-) superfast :-)

seems without careful removal of the pulleys on these vortech's the inner seal can get ripped, thus causing a leak under boost, looking forward to beating the car all the way back from simpsons :-)

Ess proving i made the right choice :-) thanks guys, even offered to have a hire vehicle waiting at simpson for me :-)
insane customer service :-)

Glad to hear u got it fixed, and quickly.
.....so simspsons were to blame then,or is it something that "easily done",lol??

Bad news then a good repair!

I just finished a morning of reading your post on PistonHeads and an afternoon of looking at Z4M's on Autotrader! Good to hear EES have a good aftersales department....

I'm just going to have a look on the HSBC site and see how much money I have.....

Ok lets try again..... Im at simpson as we speak, completly exhausted after a night of no sleep, but glad to say within the next hour work begins to swap out the leaky sc unit, im waiting with the car then driving home this afternoon......

As my old sc unit was on the way out , i decided to officially blow its guts out on the way up, really had a good laugh on the twisty lanes:-)

My current damaged unit is now completly knackered :-) lol

Wahoooo the car is now back and fighting fit, the oil cooler line connection APPEAR to be fine after all these long drives and no leakage back, which turned out to be an undertorqued bolt :-(, the car now has its brand new s/c unit fitted and is running better than ever, funnily enough the car is now make 1 Extra psi, im REALLY pleased to say my car made 512bhp on the dyno today and is Running Very well, the tune feels great with proper adaption time, oil temps never go above the 100 mark, AFRs seem spot on, the car is running great..... very very pleased with it.....

on the way back i did give it alittle beating but witht he new s/c unit i want to run it in for another few 200 miles or so, i did however do some real world testing, and the car feels GREAT............. very very pleased.

power seems to be very linear, off boost the car is as docile as a stock ///M infact probably more so, i have choosen VERY agreesive vanos timing settings and combined with the 7.5-8psi im seeing the car feels really nice, my T/C light flashes at the thick end of 3rd gear...... I ran the twisty b roads T/C off and the car felt suitably bonkers, easily overwhelming my freshi Ps2's im looking forward to getting my spare set of cups on. Now honestly i wont lie...... the vt1 445 kit with alittle race gas makes GREAT numbers and is so little stress on this engine i cant help but recommend it, id definatly recommend vt1 for a start off kit and i gaurantee you wont be dissapointed......

The VT2 changes the game slightly, the extra torque is really nice and i just love seeing the boost gauge needle fly around, i love the stability provided by the extra cooling items and what i love about the vt2 is the constant performance...... the vt1 did suffer heat soak in the warmer weather, it felt nice and fast on the first few runs but slowed with the rising temps being non-intercooled, now this vt2 adds a truely gargantuan front mount intercooler and oil cooler, temps are very stable.

imo you'll only ever need vt1 but vt2 is perfect for the i want more z4m owner....... i had so much fun playing around with a clio sport this morning, GREAT fun......
The engine seems to just love boost, the sound is now even more nuts, a very hard edged s/c induction noise and whistle and blow offs........ overlaid with that beautiful s54 mecanical thrash....... its a very very cool noise....

i just cant get enough of rev counter, i really have to concentrate on shifting now as it moves so quickly its very easy to pop the limiter...... soooo much fun @ 5am on a deserted a48 :-)

btw simpson were awesome as usual and simply said, we are human as well and make mistakes....... its the way they put it right that matters and theyve done Everything to get me back on the road..... thanks ESS and simpson for the customer service.....

no prob ed ill scan one up wen i can ..... notice the time??? im posting this as my little boys awoken.... again...... lol.

tq figures are really nice since im seeing meaningful boost in the lower rev range, 6th gear on the m-way feels perfect.....

All good news!
I sent them an email a week ago to get some information and prices for the same sort of install. Need to decide if I purchase the S/C in the US or UK.
No reply yet but I assume they are busy.
My plan is to get a Z4M Roadster in December or April next year and then proceed with the Supercharger install.
Long time away but I'm almost sold. The 911 itch will have to wait a few more years
:)
